Chapter 140
Chapter 140: "Wait!"
Just as Ye Fengyun was about to leave, Wen Zhengtian called out to him.
“What do you want, old man?” Ye Fengyun turned around.
Wen Zhengtian was so furious he nearly spat blood.
“Do you think you can just come and go as you please? Didn’t you say my painting was a fake? Fine, then today you’d better explain yourself, or don’t even think about leaving easily!”
Wen Zhengtian glared angrily, pointing at Ye Fengyun as he scolded him.
Ye Fengyun sneered coldly. “You want me to explain myself? Fine.”
He strode over to the painting, grabbed a cup of tea, and splashed it across the canvas.
“What are you doing!!” Wen Zhengtian was shocked and roared at Ye Fengyun, lunging at him wildly.
But Ye Fengyun effortlessly caught the attack, grabbed his face, and twisted him toward the painting.
“Open your dog eyes and look carefully,” Ye Fengyun said icily.
Wen Zhengtian stared at the painting and was instantly stunned.
Ye Fengyun pinched the edge of the soaked rice paper and rubbed it—astonishingly, the paper instantly separated.
It was two layers.
Seeing this, everyone’s hearts skipped a beat, their suspicions confirmed.
Ye Fengyun mocked, “Two layers of rice paper: the bottom is a forged fake, the top layer is to create an aged effect. You can’t even spot such an obvious fake? And you still call yourselves competent?”
Everyone’s faces turned purple with rage but they had no rebuttal.
There was no denying it—Ye Fengyun spoke the truth. The painting was indeed a forgery, and they had been outmatched. No room for argument.
The worst off was Wen Zhengtian, who lost not only money but also face.
“My five million!!” Wen Zhengtian knelt on the ground, clutching the fake painting and weeping bitterly.
He had spent over five million yuan on this painting, just to brag about it tonight in front of everyone. Who would have thought it was fake!
Wen Zhengtian was utterly desolate.
But that wasn’t the most despairing part.
The tea slowly seeped through the entire painting, revealing a small line of text hidden in the layers: “Whoever buys this is brain-damaged.”
“Pfft!”
Wen Zhengtian immediately spat out a mouthful of blood and fainted.
“Mr. Wen! Mr. Wen!”
His assistant rushed to support him, but Wen Zhengtian had already lost consciousness.
At that moment, Butler Lin burst in with several men and helped Wen Zhengtian onto a stretcher.
“Master, I will take good care of Mr. Wen,” Butler Lin said, nodding respectfully to Elder Xu.
Elder Xu was momentarily stunned, then nodded blankly as if in a daze, muttering, “Go ahead.”
Butler Lin smiled slightly, then left with his men. Before departing, he exchanged a glance with Ye Fengyun. At that instant, Ye Fengyun felt a strange sense of familiarity about this man.
He’s not Butler Lin!
Just as the thought crossed his mind, Ye Fengyun felt a sudden jolt in his heart.
If he’s not Butler Lin, then who is he? Where is the real Butler Lin? And why is he impersonating him?
As Ye Fengyun pondered these questions, an old laugh echoed through the crowd.
“Hahaha, it seems your refined mood has been spoiled. Allow this old Taoist to entertain you all.”
The speaker was an elderly Taoist dressed entirely in black. He wore simple clothes, had a goatee, a long face with a prominent nose, and narrow eyes. A hairy black mole marked his forehead, giving him a shifty look.
The black-clad Taoist surveyed the surroundings and selected a painting of a Western beauty hanging on the wall.
“This painting is quite good,” the Taoist praised.
