Chapter 88: It's Enough for Me That Only One Woman Loves Me
A deep, husky, and seductive voice lingered by her ear. The curve of his lips revealed a smile brimming with undeniable confidence—a smile capable of enchanting all who beheld it.
"You... nonsense. I haven't—don't think every woman in the world likes you."
This arrogant, conceited man was entirely too self-assured.
Did he truly believe that every woman adored him?
"Little liar… I only need one woman to like me. That woman is you."
Meng Yier gazed at the rare, stunning smile on his face, her heart trembling. She lowered her eyes, no longer daring to meet his gaze. His fervent look seemed to pierce her soul, stirring her unease.
Yan Yichen's smile deepened, joy radiating from his eyes and brows.
He kissed her. He had worried she might be angry, but now he could be sure—she wasn't. She didn't dislike him; perhaps she even liked him a little, though this silly girl hadn't yet realized it herself.
Seeing him laugh so freely, Meng Yier was both embarrassed and annoyed. Her already rosy cheeks flushed deeper; at this moment, she wished she could sink into the earth to escape. It was as though this man could glimpse her very heart.
Suddenly, the phone resting on the dining table rang, shattering the silence in the room.
The atmosphere was unbearably awkward.
The ring was like a lifeline, arriving just in time.
The two exchanged a glance. Meng Yier hastily rose and walked toward the table, flustered. Yet the gaze following her from behind made her feel utterly uneasy.
Yan Yichen watched her hurried figure as she left, and reached up to gently brush his lips.
Her sweet taste, the warmth lingering on his lips, and the heat of her touch still remained.
He savored them.
Meng Yier picked up her phone and glanced at the caller ID.
Cosen!
She paused, suddenly realizing that since yesterday she had not thought of Cosen even once.
Her brows drew together. After a moment’s hesitation, she walked to the window and answered.
"Cosen."
The soft utterance of his name seemed to cut through everything, reaching Yan Yichen on the sofa, whose mood was still buoyant.
Cosen!
Yan Yichen's smile faded, replaced by a shadow.
Him again.
"Yier, I've reserved a restaurant. Let's have dinner tonight—I'll pick you up."
His gentle, pleasant voice came through the phone, carrying a hint of insistence that left little room for refusal.
Meng Yier was silent for a moment.
"Alright."
"See you soon, then."
"See you soon."
Meng Yier hung up, standing blankly before the large floor-to-ceiling window, her thoughts in turmoil.
To be confessed to by two men—no, one confession and one proposal. She had never imagined it would trouble her so.
She had been confessed to by many boys before and had refused many times, but never had it been so hard to find the words, never had she felt so lost as now.
Towards Cosen, she truly admired him. Faced with his proposal, she should have felt happiness.
Indeed, she did.
Yet accepting his proposal, she remained hesitant.
Yan Yichen’s eyes were shadowed, his gaze fixed on her slender figure at the window. He frowned slightly, then rose and strode to stand beside her, his dark eyes gazing out.
"Cosen's call?"
His cool, low voice startled her. Meng Yier trembled slightly, her starry eyes flickering briefly to Yan Yichen before she turned calmly to look outside.
"You heard?"
Yan Yichen nodded, turning sideways, his handsome face betraying no emotion.
