Yan Yichen sat quietly against the back of the sofa, his deep eyes fixed on the computer screen, which displayed the footage from the entrance surveillance camera.

He glanced at the time on his phone: 10:50.

His sensual lips pressed into a tight line, Yichen raised his hand in agitation and pinched the bridge of his straight nose. A flicker of coldness lingered in the depths of his unfathomable gaze, his eyes as sharp as blades, locked onto the nearly motionless scene on the screen.

At this hour, that girl was still not home.

Where had she gone?

He had originally planned to be away on business for four days, but had rushed his work, handling everything in just two, all so he could return and see her sooner.

It had only been two days since he last saw her, yet his entire heart was with her, the suffocating longing enveloping him at every moment.

He suddenly felt a little dazed, struggling to recall how he had endured the years she spent abroad, how he survived those days without her.

For six years, he had gradually grown accustomed to life without her, learning to bury his desperate yearning deep within, silently awaiting the day they would reunite.

Countless silent nights were spent with only the memories of her to sustain him, lying awake until dawn.

Suddenly, a slender figure flickered across the once still screen.

Yan Yichen rose abruptly, the icy darkness in his eyes melting away as he recognized that lively silhouette.

Downstairs, Meng Yier was bidding farewell to Kesen before heading upstairs alone. Pausing at the door, she rummaged through her bag for the keys.

With a soft click, before she could even turn around, a cool voice came from behind her.

“Back already?”

Startled, Meng Yier froze for a moment. As she turned around, she was met by the sight of a breathtakingly handsome man in a bathrobe, lounging nonchalantly against the doorframe. His face was calm, betraying no emotion.

“You scared me…” Meng Yier exhaled, turning back to continue searching her bag.

“You finished your business trip so quickly?”

Yan Yichen’s handsome face grew even more expressionless, his lips pressed tighter, a faint crease between his brows.

So quickly?

Did she really think his trip had been too short?

If not for her…

Truly, a heartless little thing.

“Yes,” he replied with a nod. These past few days, she had finally stopped treating him with the animosity she once held; he couldn’t bear to push her away again.

“While I was gone these two days, you didn’t forget to feed Fluffy, did you?”

Meng Yier’s head shot up, her hand pausing mid-search. Her gentle voice carried a note of anxiety. “Oh, Fluffy! I nearly forgot! I haven’t been home all day—he must be starving.”

Suddenly recalling the little creature, Meng Yier was filled with guilt. She hadn’t been home all day, only feeding Fluffy once before leaving that morning. By now, he was surely hungry.

With this on her mind, she sped up her movements.

Yan Yichen’s lips quirked, and he shook his head helplessly, a teasing tone in his cool voice.

“Honestly, you’re so unreliable. I told you over and over to take good care of him, and yet…”

Ignoring his words, Meng Yier unlocked the door. As soon as she stepped inside, she called out anxiously, “Fluffy—”

Wasn’t Fluffy supposed to be downstairs?

A trace of confusion appeared on Yan Yichen’s usually indifferent face as he watched her hurry inside, calling the little one’s name. Without hesitation, he followed close behind.

“Did you bring Fluffy home?”

“Fluffy…”

Meng Yier glanced around, searching. Hearing her call, Fluffy bounded out of the room and leapt to her side.

She smiled, bending to scoop him up. Sitting on the sofa, she gently stroked his fur, and Fluffy nestled contentedly in her arms.

“Fluffy, I’m sorry. You must be starving.”

Yan Yichen sat beside her and reached out to stroke Fluffy’s snowy fur, but Meng Yier quickly slapped his hand away, clutching Fluffy protectively and edging aside.

“Careful, you’ll have an allergic reaction—”
