Chapter 104: Finger Sucking
In the living room, Meng Yier used both her phone and her computer to search online for a long time. Only after confirming that those reports had indeed vanished did she finally breathe easy. The frown between her brows gradually relaxed.
She lifted her eyes toward the second floor. It was quiet, with no sound at all.
Thinking of Yan Yichen’s words, “I’m hungry,” and the way he had acted as if he were some domineering master who had to be obeyed, Meng Yier found herself walking toward the kitchen.
Well, then. Let it begin and end properly.
They had agreed on one week. Today was the very last day. After today, he would no longer be able to use any excuse to force her into working for him, to make a slave of her.
Merely thinking of that made Meng Yier feel happy, so happy that even her steps grew lighter.
But soon, as she stopped cutting the vegetables, the bright smile on her face slowly faded, and a trace of loss rose in her heart.
After today, would there be very little between the two of them?
He had said he liked her, but once they no longer spent every day together, would he still keep clinging to her like this?
He was always surrounded by women of every kind. Perhaps in just a day or two, he would forget her.
Meng Yier frowned, and her chest suddenly felt tight, as though a knot of gloom had formed there and refused to loosen.
“Ah...”
A sudden stab of pain in her hand made her cry out.
Looking down, she saw bright, glaring blood gushing from a long cut on her finger.
“What happened?”
The startled cry from downstairs sent Yan Yichen’s heart lurching tight. He rushed downstairs in a panic.
The moment he saw the slender little woman’s finger covered in blood, his chest constricted. His brows snapped together hard, and a heavy flash of pain crossed those deep, dark eyes.
He pulled her over and pressed her slender shoulders, making her sit by the dining table.
“Why were you so careless?”
His cool voice carried a hint of barely perceptible concern.
Meng Yier looked up at the tense man, and warmth seemed to flow through her heart. Even the pain in her hand seemed to lessen a little.
Yan Yichen’s long fingers pressed firmly below the cut to keep the blood from flowing any further.
“Ah... it hurts.”
She cried out, complaining in protest.
“It serves you right for being careless.”
Though he spoke with reproach, when he looked up and saw her tiny face all tightly knit together, he eased his grip by a fraction. His cool voice softened slightly.
“We have to stop the bleeding. Bear with it for a moment.”
After about two minutes, the bleeding finally stopped. Yan Yichen released her finger and gently wiped away the blood with a touch so careful it would not hurt her.
He stood to fetch the first-aid kit, then returned to her side. Taking her injured hand again, he watched as a thin line of red seeped once more from the wound, stabbing at his eyes.
Almost instinctively, Yan Yichen lowered his head and kissed her slender finger.
The cool brush of his lips on her fingertip made Meng Yier tremble violently. She stared blankly into the man’s dark, calm eyes.
Time seemed to freeze.
Their gazes locked, and an indistinct, ambiguous atmosphere thickened in the air.
Yan Yichen paused slightly, as though he himself had not expected to make such an intimate gesture.
Yet looking at the little woman before him—her cheeks flushed red, her large, misty eyes shining with a layer of hazy moisture, her soft, seductive red lips parted as if inviting him to taste them, staring at him in a daze—he could not have been more satisfied.
The soft touch at his lips stirred his heart in waves he could not quite restrain.
A glimmer passed through Yan Yichen’s dark eyes.
