Chapter 70: Where Is the Changing Room?
Once the fans realized what was happening, they too began to chase after the pair.
They hadn’t run far when Meng Yier suddenly remembered that Furball was still at the animal hospital. Worried about the little creature, she struggled to stop, gasping, “Furball… what about Furball? I have to go back and find him…”
Even at a time like this, this girl was thinking of Furball.
Yan Yichen could only smile helplessly. He gripped her hand tightly, refusing to let her break free, and didn’t slow his stride, dragging her along as they continued to run.
“There’s no time! Furball will be fine—the doctors and nurses will take care of him. Once we get away from these people, we can go back and pick him up.”
Seeing that there was no way to turn back, Meng Yier felt his words made sense and kept running at his side.
The two burst out of the animal hospital and raced toward where the car was parked. But as they drew closer, they noticed a newly opened shop on the roadside—likely holding some promotion, for a long queue had formed outside. The people in line stared at the frantic duo with puzzled eyes.
“Yan Yichen…” came the shouts of the fans pursuing them, their voices ringing out as they ran. Many in the queue recognized Yan Yichen as well, and several abandoned their places, hurrying toward the pair.
“This is bad…”
Seeing the people from the line now racing from the direction of the car, blocking their path, Yan Yichen’s face tightened.
“We’re surrounded from both sides—what do we do now?” Meng Yier cried out in panic, having just escaped one danger only to be caught in another.
There was no way they could lose the crowd by car.
Yan Yichen scanned the area. People were converging from both directions, and the numbers were growing—he had to shake them off, fast.
“This way—”
He tightened his grip on Meng Yier’s hand and swiftly pulled her toward the bustling commercial district to the left. The more crowded the street, the easier it would be to find a place to hide.
He had been besieged by fans more than once over the years and had perfected a set of evasive skills.
They darted through alleys and main streets alike, but the chasing crowd only grew larger, relentless in their pursuit.
“Yan Yichen, do something—I can’t run anymore…” Meng Yier cried out, breathless and exhausted.
He glanced back and saw she was pale and gasping, clearly reaching her limit.
“Just a little further—”
Looking ahead, he quickly spotted a side street. The two of them ducked into it, finding themselves on a noisy yet slightly decrepit lane.
Yan Yichen’s gaze swept around. Before the pursuers could turn into the street, he pulled Meng Yier into the second shop on the block—a tiny clothing store that catered to middle-aged and elderly women. The clothes inside were distinctive, with a vintage flair.
Behind the counter sat a plump, kindly-faced middle-aged woman, her eyes fixed on her phone.
When she looked up to see a handsome young man and a beautiful girl burst into her shop, both breathless and anxious, she pushed her glasses up and gazed at them in astonishment, her round eyes wide. It was obvious that young people rarely set foot in her establishment.
“Where’s the fitting room?” Yan Yichen asked in a low, cool voice, pulling his cap down.
The woman stared at them in a daze, too stunned to respond.
“Where’s the fitting room?” Yan Yichen repeated, this time with a touch of impatience.
After a blink, the woman silently pointed toward the back.
Yan Yichen nodded and quickly pushed Meng Yier toward the fitting room.
She shrugged off his grip and stepped back out. “You go in first—you’re more likely to be recognized.”
With that, she took a few steps closer to the plump woman behind the counter.
