Chapter 67: You Truly Have an Eye for Things
Meng Yier burst out laughing, her laughter so unrestrained she nearly doubled over, shaking with mirth. She laughed for a long time before finally catching her breath, her voice disordered as she said, “Yan Yichen, you really do think highly of yourself, don’t you? Do you think just stepping out the door will land you on the front page?”
Yan Yichen tugged at his lips, a barely perceptible curve gracing his thin mouth.
“Alone, of course not. But today is different. Guess what tomorrow’s headline will be: Overseas beauty surnamed Meng and the hottest star Yan Yichen build a love nest together?”
His cool voice carried an unmistakable note of teasing.
“You—”
Meng Yier was momentarily speechless.
“If you’d like to test it, I’d be happy to oblige.”
The icy words had barely drifted down from above when Meng Yier felt an invisible pressure rush over her. He was already tall and imposing, standing more than twenty centimeters above her. Now, with the two of them positioned one above the other on the steps, he looked down at her from above, making his presence even more overwhelming.
“No, no, that won’t be necessary…”
Meng Yier waved her hands in surrender and bolted before he could get any closer.
Yan Yichen remained where he stood, turning slightly to watch her panic-stricken retreat. The smile at the corner of his lips deepened, and a fleeting glint flashed through his dark, fathomless eyes.
“Miss, your boyfriend is really wonderful. He brought you and Fluffy to the animal hospital, so attentive and caring, and he’s so handsome too. With a boyfriend like that, you must be truly happy…”
The young veterinary nurse had stolen more than a few glances at Yan Yichen, who was teasing a big golden retriever nearby, before whispering enviously to Meng Yier as she changed Fluffy’s bandages.
Meng Yier hurriedly pressed a finger to her lips, signaling for her to lower her voice. She glanced back at Yan Yichen and whispered, “Nurse, you’re mistaken, he—”
“Nurse, you certainly have good taste, but you got one thing wrong.”
Yan Yichen, somehow already behind the two women, wore a smile that softened his usually cold, impassive features.
Both the nurse and Meng Yier froze for a moment, doubt flickering across their faces.
“What did I say wrong?” the nurse asked.
Yan Yichen smiled faintly, a hint of mischief slipping into his usually cool tone. “With a boyfriend like this, you must be so happy—that’s not wrong. But I’d much rather hear someone say, with a girlfriend like this, I’m the happiest man alive.”
Meng Yier stiffened instantly, looking up only to meet his ink-black, sparkling eyes filled with laughter.
Her heart seemed to skip a beat, suddenly tumbling into chaos.
She quickly looked away, fixing her gaze on Fluffy in a flustered attempt to conceal her disarray.
“What a loving couple! With such caring owners, Fluffy is sure to grow up healthy and happy.”
“We’re not—” Meng Yier started to explain, embarrassed.
But before she could finish, Yan Yichen pulled her into his arms, looking down at her flushed cheeks with a half-smile.
His cool voice rang out, “We’ll definitely take good care of him, nurse. You can rest assured…”
The nurse glanced at the two of them and nodded with a gentle smile.
As the pair turned their heads, they saw a tall, slender man in an expensive black suit striding steadily toward them.
His brows were long and met his temples, his nose was straight and prominent, and his thin lips carried a trace of sharpness.
The afternoon sunlight swept across his figure, casting his silhouette into a striking, elegant outline. Every gesture, every move, exuded nobility and grace.
