Chapter 34: Lingyun Grand Hotel (2)
Meng Yier hurriedly raised her hand to cover her face, lowered her head, and muttered quietly, “It’s over, it’s over…”
After a long moment without hearing any sound, she anxiously lifted her head to sneak a glance. She saw Yan Yichen, clad in a perfectly tailored black suit that accentuated his tall and slender figure. The dazzling lights of the banquet hall illuminated his features, making his already exquisite and flawless face appear even more striking—straight nose, thin lips, lively eyes, handsome to the point of being almost unearthly.
The entertainment industry had never lacked attractive men and women; any random person pulled from the crowd would be a dazzling presence. But Yan Yichen possessed a unique charm: he could instantly make everything around him fade into insignificance, effortlessly becoming the focal point of the entire room.
The previously lively banquet fell silent at his sudden arrival. All eyes turned toward him. Gao Yang, the deputy general manager of Yunteng, was the first to regain his composure. Holding a wine glass, he approached, eager and polite.
As Gao Yang began to speak, the atmosphere in the banquet hall relaxed a little. Many people, smiling brightly, walked over to exchange pleasantries with him.
Yan Yichen responded only with a faint smile and a nod, rarely speaking.
Praise for him reached Meng Yier’s ears from every direction.
Yu Mingxin suddenly shook Meng Yier excitedly. “It really is Yan Yichen! How did he come here? This doesn’t make sense—everyone in the industry says he never attends these social events!”
Meng Yier pursed her lips and looked at Yu Mingxin, whose mood had shifted so quickly, shaking her head in resignation. “You know him?”
Yu Mingxin’s face glowed with excitement. “He’s the number one male idol in the entertainment world! Who doesn’t know him? Six years in the industry with not a single scandal, stunning looks, incredible acting skills—every TV show and film he’s starred in has been both a box office hit and critically acclaimed. He’s the guarantee of a blockbuster. All the top directors and big productions in the country chase after him for the leading role. And he’s not just a great actor, he’s got a brilliant business mind—he’s currently one of the major shareholders of Hua Corporation. There’s even some insider gossip recently that he’s the son of Yan Group, the leading electronics company. He’s a genuine heir, but insists on relying on his own abilities. So, so, so low-key…”
The more Yu Mingxin spoke, the more excited she became, gazing at Yan Yichen with an infatuated look. She continued, “And he’s a musical genius too. His voice is especially captivating. He started out as a singer, but because he was so handsome, his agency fought to get him into acting. Unexpectedly, he became an overnight sensation and the youngest ever Best Actor. His career has only shined brighter since. What’s most remarkable is that even though he acts, he’s never given up on his greatest passion—music.”
As for his acting skills, Meng Yier didn’t know; she had never watched any of his films or shows.
But as a musical talent, she truly acknowledged him.
After all, the first time she heard him sing, she was completely captivated, falling hopelessly in love with that voice.
Meng Yier knew he was a star, but had never paid much attention, unaware of how famous he truly was.
Listening to Yu Mingxin’s enthusiastic recounting of Yan Yichen’s journey, Meng Yier couldn’t help but feel a touch of admiration. Yet, when she remembered the two abrupt, unruly kisses at the airport and by the pool, all her goodwill vanished instantly.
Meng Yier shook her head to dispel the memories, scoffed lightly, and muttered, “No matter how beautiful the exterior, it cannot conceal a sordid soul.”
Yu Mingxin shot her a glance, “Xiao Yi, what did you say?”
Meng Yier cleared her throat, flustered, “Oh, nothing. I said he’s very good-looking, very handsome—”
Yu Mingxin smiled with a lovestruck expression. “Right? Right? He’s really handsome. No wonder he’s voted ‘National Husband’—oh, a true idol. But still, a tiny bit behind Gu Yunchen…”
Meng Yier chuckled and shook her head. “Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder, without a doubt.”
“Would the two ladies care to join me for a drink?” A clear male voice sounded from behind them.
