Chapter 105: Xia Ruoxi Is Attacked
At the Lin family dining table, Xia Ruoxi gratefully accepted the egg handed to her by Liu Runli and smiled warmly at her. “Thank you, Auntie!”
Elder Lin sat at the head of the table. Seeing the joyful scene before him, he nodded with satisfaction. Yet, his gaze fell upon Lin Feng, who was quietly eating without any expression, and he shook his head helplessly.
“I’m saying, at least show some enthusiasm. The FutureTech company is yours, and you have nothing else to do at home. Can’t you accompany Ruoxi to go out and explore a bit? You’re a man—always making the girls do the work. Aren’t you ashamed?” Elder Lin could no longer bear it and voiced his criticism to Lin Feng.
Lin Feng was eating breakfast, surprised by the sudden lecture from Elder Lin. Why was he always cast as the villain?
Seeing Lin Feng being scolded, Xia Ruoxi quickly stepped forward to defend him. “Actually, Lin Feng is quite busy. He has many matters to handle. Also, he encourages me to solve problems independently to help me grow. After all, the company will keep expanding, and I need to develop the skills to manage such a large enterprise.”
Hearing Xia Ruoxi’s defense, Lin Feng nodded with satisfaction. This was indeed his true intention, though Elder Lin and the others failed to understand.
But Lin Feng knew that Iga Tenga was preparing to target Xia Ruoxi, so no matter what, he would accompany her when she went out today.
After breakfast, Lin Feng and Lin Yu headed again to the Longteng Gang’s Yanjing branch. Since their intelligence department was still being established, many events in Yanjing were not yet promptly reported to the gang. Zhao Ze and Zhuque needed to discuss development directions with Lin Feng as well.
Lin Feng and Lin Yu left earlier than Xia Ruoxi, so they were unaware that a group of people had been tailing Xia Ruoxi since she left the Lin family compound, and Xia Ruoxi herself was completely oblivious.
Following yesterday’s arrangement with her close friends, Xia Ruoxi arrived at the agreed meeting spot. Her two friends had arrived early and were waiting for her. Upon seeing them, Xia Ruoxi excitedly rushed over and began chattering happily, unaware that death was silently closing in.
The night before, Iga Tenga had sent operatives to track Xia Ruoxi’s recent movements. Since Xia Ruoxi was a public figure, well-known within Yanjing circles, the island organization’s members easily traced her detailed whereabouts over the past days. They knew she had been at this location yesterday and that she would likely appear again today. Early in the morning, Iga Tenga positioned himself about a thousand meters away, ready with a high-precision sniper rifle aimed at this spot.
The moment Xia Ruoxi appeared, the island operatives nearby reported her position to Iga Tenga via radio. Upon receiving the report, Iga Tenga immediately raised his sniper rifle and quickly locked onto Xia Ruoxi through the scope.
Xia Ruoxi was immersed in intimate conversation with her friends, unaware that death was creeping ever closer. Suddenly, she made a loud movement, knocking her phone from the table onto the ground. Seeing this, she bent down quickly to pick it up.
At that very moment, Iga Tenga, through his scope, locked onto Xia Ruoxi and decisively pulled the trigger. He had not anticipated that Xia Ruoxi’s phone would fall, causing her to lower her head and narrowly evade the bullet.
The bullet did not hit Xia Ruoxi but merely brushed past her hair, cutting several strands by the rush of air it generated. Unfortunately, an innocent passerby behind her was not so lucky—the bullet passed through Xia Ruoxi’s hair and struck the person directly.
The passerby collapsed instantly, blood gushing onto the pavement as they lost consciousness and died on the spot. Xia Ruoxi and her friends were stunned by the sudden violence, but Xia Ruoxi quickly regained her composure. Having spent much time with Lin Feng, her instincts told her the attack was meant for her, and she had narrowly escaped by bending down to retrieve her phone.
Alerted, Xia Ruoxi began leading her friends into the crowd, seeking safety in numbers. Meanwhile, Iga Tenga, seeing through the scope that he had missed and that Xia Ruoxi had disappeared into the crowd, knew he had lost his chance to shoot again. He swiftly dismantled his rifle and left the scene.
Soon, the Yanjing police arrived at the crime scene. Once they understood the situation, they recognized the severity of the incident and quickly escalated the case. Within moments, the news reached the Premier and Minister Xie.
Minister Xie rushed to the Lin residence. At that moment, Xia Ruoxi had already returned, and Liu Runli was comforting her in the hall.
“Minister Xie, do you know who was behind this?” Elder Lin’s face darkened as he asked. Although Xia Ruoxi was not yet formally married into the family, Elder Lin regarded her as a daughter-in-law. For someone to dare attack a member of the Lin family on their home turf in Yanjing was a grave provocation.
“At present, the attacker has not been found. I have deployed our sharpest operatives to investigate. I believe we will have results soon. Elder Lin, rest assured—the Chairman and the Premier have personally instructed that we must give the Lin family an explanation,” Minister Xie said, aware of the anger simmering beneath Elder Lin’s calm exterior and careful not to speak recklessly.
“That’s right, Minister Xie. You must find the culprit quickly. Ruoxi has never offended anyone. Who would be so cruel as to attempt to kill her in broad daylight?” Liu Runli, still soothing Xia Ruoxi, voiced her indignation.
At this, Minister Xie realized that while Xia Ruoxi was unlikely to have enemies, Lin Feng had made many. Could this be retaliation against him? He immediately asked, “Where is Lin Feng? Why isn’t he at home now?”
Elder Lin seemed to understand the implication and said, “Lin Feng went out today. I have kept this from him for now. If he finds out, I fear there will be bloodshed again.”
Minister Xie nodded, “You mean the attack was probably aimed at Lin Feng. Has anything unusual happened recently?”
Elder Lin thought for a moment and recalled Lin Feng’s meeting with the Iga family from the island the previous day. Having heard about the grudges between Lin Feng and the Iga family, he understood immediately. Just as he was about to speak, Minister Xie’s phone rang.
“It’s me. Any results? Got it. Deploy the Falcon Task Force—don’t let them escape. Even if they flee the country, they must be captured!” Minister Xie answered the call loudly, not bothering to hide the conversation from those in the Lin household. After listening, he issued orders without hesitation.
Minister Xie hung up, his face darkening. Before he could say anything, Elder Lin remarked, “It’s the island people, isn’t it?”
Surprised, Minister Xie looked up at Elder Lin. “How do you know? Do you have some information?”
Elder Lin had only been guessing, but seeing Minister Xie’s reaction, he realized it was indeed the Iga family from the island.
“Elder Lin, and all of you, don’t worry. I have dispatched the Falcon Task Force. With them on the case, we will get answers soon,” Minister Xie assured them. The Falcon Task Force was one of the four legendary special forces units of China, renowned for their prowess.
Elder Lin, aware of the Falcon Task Force’s reputation, felt somewhat relieved hearing this. Yet he calmly said, “Let’s hope so. But I don’t know how to explain this to Lin Feng right now.”
Minister Xie sighed in response, uncertain how to proceed.
Unfortunately, things did not go as smoothly as hoped. After missing his shot, Iga Tenga retreated according to the original plan, returning to the island by special means. The Falcon Task Force scoured Yanjing but found no trace. When they learned the island operatives had returned home, they followed by special means.
Unexpectedly, two hours after arriving on the island, the Falcon Task Force lost all contact with their headquarters. After multiple failed attempts to reestablish communication, the headquarters informed Minister Xie of the situation.
“What? Lost contact? How could this happen? Are you sure?” Minister Xie, who had been waiting anxiously at the Lin residence, slammed his teacup down in shock and shouted into the phone.
“We have confirmed it multiple times. For unknown reasons, the Falcon Task Force lost contact with their team two hours after entering the island. Shall we send reinforcements?” The operative on the other end was aware of the gravity of the situation and spoke candidly, awaiting orders.
Minister Xie, as the nation’s Defense Minister, composed himself quickly. As soon as the operative finished, he ordered, “All other Falcon members, prepare for action and stand by for further orders!” Then he abruptly ended the call.
In the Lin family hall, Elder Lin and the others quietly watched the grim-faced Minister Xie, waiting for him to speak.
After a moment, Minister Xie regained his composure and solemnly addressed Elder Lin, “This is serious. The elite Falcon team sent to the island is missing—likely in grave danger. Among them is my own grandson, the third generation of my family. He was leading this mission.”
He then explained the situation to the other Lin family members, leaving a heavy silence in the room.
