Outside the hotel, Lin Yu sat in the car, bored out of his mind, playing on his phone. It had been just over half an hour since Lin Feng had left the car to attend the banquet. Lin Yu was still happily chatting with a girl through a messaging app when suddenly he heard a “knock, knock, knock” on the car window. Following the sound, he looked out and saw Lin Feng standing outside, waving for him to open the door because he wanted to get in.

Seeing it was Lin Feng, Lin Yu quickly pressed the control button to unlock the door and let him into the car.

“Lin Feng, why did you come down so quickly? Wait, have you been drinking?” Lin Yu asked in surprise once Lin Feng was inside, suddenly catching the strong scent of alcohol on him.

Lin Feng remained calm and looked at Lin Yu with a composed expression: “Surprised? Didn’t I tell you I’d be down quickly? There was food and wine upstairs. I hadn’t eaten, so do you think I’d just sit there and not drink or eat? Am I stupid?”

“If I’d known, I would have shamelessly gone up with you. I haven’t eaten either, and I’m starving!” Lin Yu said with a regretful look, pretending to bemoan his fate.

“Let’s go back now. Maybe there’ll still be some leftovers at home for you!” Lin Feng dismissed Lin Yu’s teasing, looking at his cheeky cousin with a hint of disbelief.

Seeing Lin Feng’s unwillingness to continue the conversation, Lin Yu felt awkward and started the car, heading toward the Lin family estate. Soon, the car’s taillights disappeared into the dark night.

In a hotel room, Iga Tengxiang sat fuming since Lin Feng had left. She hadn’t expected her carefully prepared plan to fail so miserably. Yet she recalled the clan chief’s instructions and quickly picked up her phone to call her grandfather to report the night’s events.

“Tengxiang, it’s so late. Do you still have business?” came the gloomy voice of Iga Tengchun as the call connected.

“Yes, Grandfather. The plan failed. Lin Feng refuses to cooperate with our Iga family and won’t grant us the agency rights,” Tengxiang reported, omitting the details of the plan’s execution and simply conveying the outcome.

“What? Lin Feng refused the toast so arrogantly! Our Iga family humbled ourselves repeatedly, putting aside past conflicts, yet he still shows such ingratitude!” Iga Tengchun’s voice grew louder and heavier with anger on the other end of the line.

Sensing her grandfather’s bad mood, Tengxiang dared not speak recklessly, fearing reprimand. Instead, she asked cautiously, “Clan Chief, what should I do next?”

There was silence for a while on the other side. If Tengxiang hadn’t heard the slow breathing through the receiver, she might have thought the call had dropped.

After a long pause, the voice finally came: “You are the expert we have trained in the organization. I entrust this matter to you. Handle it as you see fit. You must teach Lin Feng a lesson and not allow him to run rampant like this!”

“Yes, Clan Chief. Rest assured, I will complete the task and give Lin Feng a profound lesson!” Tengxiang said firmly, clutching the phone tightly.

“Good! I trust you,” Iga Tengchun replied calmly before hanging up, ending the call.

Only after hearing the dial tone did Tengxiang slowly put down the phone. Sitting alone on the sofa, she pondered the clan chief’s orders. Since the plan was left to her discretion, the result just had to satisfy the Iga family.

But where should she strike Lin Feng? She lacked the courage to confront him directly. Even in their brief confrontation in the room, though she was a proud woman, she didn’t dare claim she could defeat Lin Feng by force. Targeting Lin Feng’s parents was out of the question—they were the Lin family of Yanjing, and attacking them would mean provoking the entire Lin clan. That option was immediately discarded.

After much thought, only one target remained: Lin Feng’s girlfriend, Xia Ruoxi. She wasn’t yet married into the Lin family, so not officially one of them, but as Lin Feng’s beloved and the president of Future Tech Company, she held great importance in his heart. Targeting her would deliver the heaviest blow to Lin Feng.

With her target chosen, Tengxiang began instructing the members of the island organization who had disguised themselves as business delegates to track Xia Ruoxi’s recent outings.

Unaware of what had transpired in the hotel room after he left, Lin Feng would have dealt with Tengxiang’s faction decisively if he had known her true motives. He would never allow any potential threat to linger before him.

At that moment, he was in the main hall of the Lin estate, enduring a grilling from Liu Runli and Xia Ruoxi.

As soon as Lin Yu returned and saw his formidable aunt glaring at him, he immediately waved his hands and distanced himself: “Auntie, don’t look at me like that. I don’t know anything. I just dropped Lin Feng off downstairs at the hotel. Besides, when I asked to go up with him, he refused!” He even took the chance to throw Lin Feng under the bus.

“Oh, so Lin Feng went up to the hotel alone!” Liu Runli sneered, casting a sarcastic glance at the alcohol-scented Lin Feng.

“Mom, I went up alone. You say there was only one woman there. Do you think the Lin family needs two big men to attend a banquet? That would be so embarrassing. Besides, I only talked with her for a few minutes, refused to cooperate, and was back downstairs within half an hour. What could I have done in that short time?” Lin Feng replied dryly, sitting next to Xia Ruoxi and sipping the tea she poured for him, clearly unimpressed by his mother’s tone.

“Heh, who knows? Maybe you’ve been too flirtatious in the past. You might be a quick draw!” Liu Runli blurted out without thinking, forgetting they were in Yanjing’s Lin family estate, surrounded by relatives. Such a bold remark slipped straight from her mouth.

No sooner had she spoken than several elders in the hall started sputtering, their tea spraying out. It was Lin Feng’s older relatives, amused by Liu Runli’s bluntness.

Lin Chuanji was unfazed, having heard his wife and daughter’s fierce banter many times before. He merely smiled wryly and glanced at Liu Runli and Lin Feng without comment. The elders, however, were less accustomed, reacting strongly, with the eldest Lin coughing violently from the tea choking him.

Realizing her words had been too blunt, Liu Runli reined herself in, no longer daring to speak carelessly. She still shot Lin Feng a sharp glare, seemingly blaming him for the situation.

Feeling caught in the crossfire, Lin Feng could only smile bitterly and continue sipping his tea, masking his helplessness.

After recovering from his coughing fit, the eldest Lin approached and curiously asked Lin Feng, “They are from the Iga family? Do you have a grudge with them?”

The eldest Lin was unaware of the conflict between Lin Feng and the Iga family, hence the question.

“Yes, a minor conflict. It began before we came to Zhanhai City. They even interfered with my company back then,” Lin Feng replied briefly, avoiding details.

The eldest Lin understood enough from Lin Feng’s words to know the matter was serious and that the feud ran deep. But as it was Lin Feng’s business, he trusted his grandson to handle it well and didn’t press further.

In truth, Liu Runli’s questioning was merely for show—to tease Lin Feng or perhaps to comfort Xia Ruoxi. After all, Xia Ruoxi was a great beauty, and Liu Runli worried she might misunderstand the situation.

Fortunately, Lin Feng’s character had changed somewhat, and nothing untoward had happened with Iga Tengxiang. This was also because Liu Runli was unaware of the feud between Lin Feng and the Iga family; had she known, she wouldn’t have been so worried.

Xia Ruoxi, however, was well aware of the origins of the grudge since she had been involved at the time. So when she learned Lin Feng had met with someone from the Iga family—even if the person was one of the island’s two great beauties—she trusted Lin Feng completely, knowing there could be no compromise with the Iga family.

After some conversation, the eldest Lin shared the results of his discussions with national leaders. The top officials had agreed to Lin Feng’s proposed solution: the remaining agency rights would be reclaimed, but those already allocated by the Lin family would not be withdrawn.

With everything settled smoothly, the group chatted for a while longer before dispersing to their rooms to rest.

The night passed without incident, and a new day dawned quickly.

At the Lin family dining table, all the elders had already left early for work, leaving only Lin Feng’s family and the eldest Lin.

“Ruoxi, are you going out to work today?” Liu Runli stirred the steaming porridge before her and asked Xia Ruoxi.

Xia Ruoxi stirred her own bowl and nodded instinctively. “Yes, Auntie. I went out all day yesterday but didn’t find much. Today, I’m meeting a friend to check out another business district.”

Liu Runli was pleased with Xia Ruoxi’s dedication and hard work for Lin Feng’s company. She smiled approvingly and then picked up an egg from the table, placing it in front of Xia Ruoxi with a caring tone: “If you’re going out, you need to eat more, or you’ll get hungry on the road and won’t have any energy!”
