Chapter 61: Because You Have Never Met a True Master
Upon hearing Su Yifan’s words, the crowd was first filled with anger, but fear quickly prevailed; not a single person dared step forward for revenge.
“Come on, don’t be cowards, everyone. If you want to make a move, just do it—don’t hold back. It would be a shame if you bottled it all up,” Su Yifan encouraged them.
But as his words fell, there was still only silence. Outwardly, no one dared speak, but inside, each person was cursing Su Yifan furiously.
Damn it! So what if you’re strong? Acting all superior! Who could possibly show off like you?
Seeing that no one spoke, Su Yifan went on, “I’ve already given you your chance for revenge. If you don’t come at me now and I later find out anyone tries something underhanded behind my back, don’t blame me for wiping out your entire family!”
As his voice faded, he waved his hand behind him.
A thunderous crash erupted—the front wall and gate of the Xiao family collapsed in a heap, sending dust billowing in every direction.
Witnessing this, warriors from the various factions swallowed hard in secret. They had indeed been plotting revenge in the shadows, but in that instant, all such thoughts were snuffed out. Even the first martial family, the Xiaos, had been destroyed—how could they possibly dare touch his family? Did they have a death wish?
The warning had been delivered. What they chose to do now was up to them.
Su Yifan did not linger; he turned and started to leave.
Just then—a figure flashed and appeared before him.
The newcomer was a rugged, broad-faced, burly middle-aged man dressed in black robes.
At the sight of this man, the crowd’s eyes lit up. They recognized him—he was from the Jinling Martial Alliance. Clearly, the Martial Alliance had heard someone was causing trouble at the Xiao residence and sent someone over.
Kid, you think you’re tough? Maybe we can’t touch you, but the Martial Alliance definitely can! Let’s see you try your luck with him!
Su Yifan, however, paid no attention and continued on his way.
“Stop right there! Who said you could leave?” the middle-aged man called out, glaring at Su Yifan.
“These legs are mine; I walk where I please. Who are you to stop me?” Su Yifan shot him a sidelong glance.
In response, the middle-aged man flashed in front of Su Yifan, towering over him. “Kid, I am—”
But before he could finish, Su Yifan’s hand shot out—a sharp slap landed squarely across his face, sending him flying to the side.
Su Yifan’s voice was calm but cold, “I don’t care who you are—today, even if your grandfather showed up, it wouldn’t matter.”
With that, he turned to leave.
But at that moment, someone in the crowd called out, “Young man, he’s from the Jinling Martial Alliance!”
As the words landed, the others nodded in agreement. They all thought Su Yifan must have acted out of ignorance, unaware of the man’s identity. If he had known, he would never have dared act so arrogantly, not even if he’d had a hundred times the courage.
Yet in the next instant, Su Yifan replied, “Don’t mention the Martial Alliance. In my eyes, they’re not even worth a fart.”
With that, he strode off.
“Su Yifan? Why does that name sound familiar?” someone murmured.
Another suddenly cried out in shock, “It’s him! He’s Su Yifan—the one who killed the King of the Southeast!”
At this, the crowd’s faces changed dramatically.
What? He’s the one who killed the King of the Southeast?
In truth, they didn’t know that not only had the King of the Southeast died by his hand, but even the God of War, Ye Wushuang, had also fallen to him. The King of the Southeast’s death had caused an uproar, and the news quickly spread to neighboring Jinling. As for Ye Wushuang, few had been present, and the authorities had suppressed the news, so they remained unaware.
Meanwhile, the middle-aged man who had been slapped by Su Yifan and overheard the crowd’s words no longer felt angry. Instead, he felt as if he had narrowly escaped death.
Damn it! So that’s the famous figure who’s been the talk of Yuncheng lately! I almost died at his hands!
…
Ten minutes later, at the Jinling Martial Alliance.
The middle-aged man had returned and recounted everything he had heard to the Alliance Leader and several core members.
“What? It was him?” one of the core members exclaimed in surprise.
Clutching his swollen cheek, the middle-aged man complained, “Alliance Leader, you must stand up for me!”
But the Alliance Leader, Yuan Tianhong, frowned and replied, “This is beyond us. That man’s strength is unfathomable. All we can do is report it and see what the higher-ups decide.”
“So I took that slap for nothing?” the middle-aged man asked bitterly.
“What more do you want? Want me to cover your travel expenses so you can go deal with him yourself in Yuncheng?” Yuan Tianhong retorted impatiently.
This man had caused trouble right under his nose, and he would have liked nothing more than to deal with him himself. But even if the entire Martial Alliance joined forces, they might not be a match for him.
Hearing this, the middle-aged man rubbed his cheek and muttered, “Forget it. I get carsick anyway.”
…
At the same time, Su Yifan had already returned to the Su residence.
As he stepped out of the car, he saw a familiar figure waiting at the gate.
“You’re back, Young Master Su?” Xie Wei hurried over to greet him.
“Is there something you need?” Su Yifan asked.
Xie Wei hesitated for a moment before replying, “Young Master Su, General Tang sent me. He said—”
But before she could finish, Su Yifan cut her off with a wave of his hand. “If you’re here for that, there’s no need to say more. I will never join this so-called Dragon Scale.”
“May I ask why?” Xie Wei mustered her courage. This was the sanctuary she had dreamed of joining her whole life—why would Su Yifan refuse?
“You really want to know?” Su Yifan looked at her.
She nodded eagerly.
Seeing her earnest, eager expression, Su Yifan raised an eyebrow. “The reason is simple—they’re too weak. I have no interest in associating with the weak. Does that answer satisfy you?”
Xie Wei was stunned for a moment before retorting quickly, “But you haven’t even joined Dragon Scale—how can you say its members are weak? That place gathers nearly every generation’s most gifted talents in Great Xia. They’re not as mediocre as you think.”
The requirements for joining Dragon Scale were notoriously strict. The people there were the most monstrously talented cultivators she had ever met. How could such a group be called weak?
Seeing her innocent, unspoiled face, Su Yifan chuckled lightly. “They may be strong in your eyes. But to be honest, to me, they’re nothing special.”
“But that’s not your fault,” he added. “You’ve simply never seen what true strength is.”
With that, Su Yifan could not be bothered to argue further and headed inside the residence.
True strength?
The phrase echoed endlessly in Xie Wei’s mind. In that moment, she began to doubt herself.
Was her vision truly so limited?
