Su Wan said coldly, “I was sick last night, and it was General Manager Meng who took me to the hospital. How could I have seduced him?”
She raised her phone, “If you doubt me, you can call him right now to verify!”
Her stepmother panicked and quickly came out to smooth things over, “Alright, since it’s a misunderstanding, let’s just clear it up. But...”
She paused, her smile forced and insincere, “You know General Manager Meng is engaged to your sister. As her older sister, shouldn’t you keep some distance from your future brother-in-law?”
“Otherwise, even if we don’t mind, others will gossip. Don’t you think so?”
Su Wan understood perfectly.
This woman simply wanted to keep her in check, afraid that Su Wan would cause trouble before Su Mei got married.
But this suited Su Wan fine; she had no intention of making a scene.
Once this project was finished and the bonus received, she would move out of this house at once!
Just as she thought the matter was settled, her father suddenly asked, “Mei Mei said you won’t resign. What’s going on?”
Su Wan turned and saw Su Mei’s triumphant smile.
She answered calmly, “General Manager Meng rejected my resignation request. If you want me to quit, you can talk to him.”
At this point, she had no choice but to use General Manager Meng as a shield—after all, the whole family was counting on that man to make a fortune.
Her father’s company was small, and he was surely relying on Su Mei marrying Meng to get investments.
So he dared not offend Meng Yanli.
“Oh, so you’re deliberately using General Manager Meng to pressure me?” Su Minyuan was furious.
Su Wan replied indifferently, “I’m just telling the truth.”
“You...” Su Minyuan’s face flushed red, embarrassed.
Her third brother tugged her arm, “Su Wan, just listen to Dad and quit your job. Why make him angry over such a small matter?”
Su Wan shook his hand off roughly.
This brat was so annoying—he wouldn’t help her and always undermined her at critical moments!
And he thought he was doing it for her own good. It was infuriating!
Her stepmother stepped in again, playing the good person, “Honey, if Su Wan doesn’t want to quit, don’t push her...”
“I think General Manager Meng only treats her specially because she’s Mei Mei’s sister; there’s no way he fancies Su Wan.”
After saying this, she gave Su Wan a sly, mocking look, reminding her with a venomous tone, “I hope you remember your place and work properly in the company without any improper thoughts...”
Su Wan ignored her and went straight upstairs.
She was utterly exhausted.
All she wanted was to take a good shower and sleep comfortably.

Afterwards, things finally settled down for a while.
After joining the project team, Su Wan wasn’t as busy as she had imagined.
She spent most of her time in the design department; General Manager Meng rarely assigned her tasks.
She was very grateful for that.
Later she learned that at the headquarters, General Manager Meng had two secretaries besides Assistant Wu, making her assistant role essentially dispensable.
This made her wonder if Meng had been toying with her from the start.
But she wasn’t sure, as Meng had helped her immensely, enabling her to return smoothly to the design department and join such an important project.
So her suspicion seemed baseless.
She increasingly felt that this man was very scheming and inscrutable.
Han Wei envied her, saying she had met a benefactor.
One day, the two ate together.
Han Wei brought up the old topic again, “Don’t you think General Manager Meng likes you?”
Su Wan shook her head, “No.”
She had indeed overthought things before, but now that she was in the project team, her sole focus was on doing her job well, and she didn’t want to consider anything else.
Meng Yanli was going to marry Su Mei sooner or later; this fact was unchangeable.
So even if she had some unreliable thoughts before, she had to crush them immediately.
What she needed now was a career, nothing else.
After dinner, the two returned to the company together.
As they chatted at the company entrance, suddenly a middle-aged woman approached them.
Su Wan was stunned, “Mrs. Meng?”
Strangely, why would General Manager Meng’s mother come looking for her?
Before she could speak, the woman raised her hand and slapped her!
Han Wei angrily pushed the woman, “Who are you? How can you hit people like that?”
A tall man in black immediately rushed over and grabbed Han Wei’s hand, twisting it behind her back!
Han Wei’s face twisted in pain.
Su Wan anxiously said to Mrs. Meng, “Let her go. If you have something to say, say it to me. It has nothing to do with her!”
She quickly realized this was probably Su Mei stirring trouble, which was why they were confronted.
“I can let her go. But tell your friend, if she dares to be rude again next time, I won’t be so polite!”
Mrs. Meng warned coldly.

“I understand, Mrs. Meng.” For her friend’s sake, Su Wan chose to back down.
At Mrs. Meng’s signal, the man in black released Han Wei.
Her wrist was red and swollen.
Su Wan pulled her aside and whispered, “She is General Manager Meng’s mother. I’ll talk to her. Don’t worry, nothing will happen.”
Han Wei was concerned, “Be careful yourself.”
“Okay, when you get back, remember to apply ice to your wrist.”
The man in black was too brutal; Han Wei’s wrist was badly bruised.
She suddenly recalled the black-clad men at the hospital before—they had greeted her politely and even bought her food; they had been quite gentle.
Now she realized she had only benefited from General Manager Meng’s favor.
Seeing Han Wei’s injured wrist, Su Wan was angry and said, “Mrs. Meng, aren’t your men going too far? They hurt my friend!”
Mrs. Meng sneered, “You saw it for yourself; she was the one who made the first move. If you keep pestering my son, it won’t just be a wrist injury next time!”
Su Wan’s face flushed with anger, “When have I ever pestered your son? I spendI'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
