After work, she returned home.

No sooner had Su Wan stepped through the door than she received a harsh slap across the face.

“Big brother, you—”

“Don’t call me that! I refuse to acknowledge someone as disgraceful as you as my sister!”

Her eldest brother, Su Zhiwen, glared at her fiercely, his expression full of contempt, as though she had truly committed something unspeakable.

Her father, Su Minyuan, stood nearby, his face twisted in anger. “Your brother is punishing you on my behalf. Look at the mess you’ve made!”

Her stepmother, Zhao Lan, pretended to soothe him, but her words only fanned the flames. “Don’t let yourself get sick over such a shameless girl, darling, it’s not worth it…”

Clutching her burning cheek, Su Wan retorted indignantly, “Tell me, what exactly makes me shameless?”

This woman never missed a day to stir up trouble!

“Heh, you dare to speak to Mom so rudely? Just look at the disgraceful things you’ve done…” Her second brother, Su Zhiwu, took a phone from their youngest sister, Su Mei, and showed it to her.

In the photo, a man lay on a bench while she leaned over him, unbuttoning his shirt.

Su Mei, Zhao Lan’s daughter, folded her arms, her expression smug. “Surprised I caught you doing something so disgraceful?”

She’d been passing by in a car and hurried to snap the photo.

“What nonsense! He fainted from heatstroke. I was unbuttoning his shirt to help him cool down…” Su Wan frowned, explaining herself.

“You think we’ll believe your lies?” her eldest and second brothers retorted almost in unison.

Su Wan felt a pang in her heart.

She could tolerate Zhao Lan and her daughter targeting her, but these two—her own brothers—now joined in! Even if she’d been raised by her grandmother, they were still born of the same mother.

After her grandmother passed and she returned home, not one of them called her “sister,” nor did they show her a shred of affection.

“Third brother, what do you think? Isn’t Su Wan bringing shame on our family?” Su Mei, seeing her third brother, Su Zhifeng, hadn’t spoken, tugged his sleeve, pouting.

He nodded immediately, agreeing, “Yes, Su Wan’s actions are truly embarrassing.”

Su Wan’s face turned pale.

This brother usually treated her decently, at least speaking to her from time to time. Out of gratitude for his small kindness, she’d helped him more than once.

Just last week, she’d designed clothes for his audition at the film crew, helping him succeed. Yesterday, he’d even promised to treat her to dinner in thanks. Now, not only did he refuse to speak up for her, but he joined the others in condemning her?

In that moment, her heart ached terribly.

Why was fate so cruel to her, leaving her not even a sliver of warmth?

She became a criminal in their eyes, subjected to everyone’s judgment in turn.

At first, she tried desperately to defend herself, but eventually grew too weary to speak.

She realized nothing she said would sway them. They’d already decided her guilt.

Finally, her father spat out a threat, “If you dare to do something disgraceful again, I’ll break your legs!”

Su Wan fought back tears.

She knew crying would win her no sympathy—only more ridicule.

She returned to her room, exhausted.

She thought she would cry her heart out, but she didn’t.

Perhaps she’d grown accustomed to such treatment over the years.

Yet, as she gazed at the kindly faces of her grandparents in the photograph, her eyes grew red.

She pressed her cheek to their image, whispering softly,

“Grandpa, Grandma… I miss you so much…”

Three days later.

Thanks to a traffic jam, Su Wan arrived at the company lobby after the morning rush.

The elevator was no longer crowded.

A tall man entered the elevator alongside her, immediately lowering his head to check his phone.

Seeing the bag in his hand, she offered, “Sir, which floor are you heading to? I’ll press it for you.”

The man paused, lifted his gaze to the buttons, and replied, “The same as you.”

Only then did Su Wan see his face clearly—her eyes widened in disbelief.

No way! Wasn’t he the man who’d suffered heatstroke that day?

He looked vibrant and energetic now, utterly different from his sickly state before. His features were striking and well-defined, exuding a natural aura of nobility.

She couldn’t help but recall the scene when she’d helped him.

On her way home from work, she’d seen a handsome young man slumped on a roadside bench, face pale, eyes tightly shut.

She approached and gently touched him. “Sir, are you feeling unwell?”

Suddenly, he lost balance and collapsed onto her, pinning her against the bench!

Their lips pressed closely together.

It took all her strength to wriggle free from beneath him.

He was most likely suffering from heatstroke. To help him cool down, she needed to unbutton his shirt.

Her fingers brushed over his firm, toned abs, making her cheeks flush.

Steeling herself, she unbuttoned his shirt and used wet wipes to clean his body.

She didn’t leave until the ambulance arrived.

Thinking of the intimate contact she’d shared with this man, Su Wan’s cheeks grew warm.

The man raised an eyebrow slightly. “What’s the matter—do you know me?”

“N-no, I don’t,” Su Wan hurriedly denied, waving her hand.

She’d only helped him out of kindness. If she admitted it now, it would feel awkward.

When the elevator stopped, both stepped out at the same time.

Su Wan bumped straight into him!

His chest was firm, immediately reminding her of the feeling she’d experienced that day.

Her cheeks flushed again for no reason.

The man looked down at her.

Was this girl always so easily embarrassed?

“S-sorry…” Su Wan stammered, hastily escaping the elevator.

He stood there, watching her graceful silhouette as she hurried away, a faint smile lifting his lips.

Design Department.

As soon as she entered, her colleague Han Wei rushed over, “Did you hear? Our company’s been acquired. The big boss is coming to inspect today!”

“Oh, really?” Su Wan was surprised.

She hadn’t heard anything about it before.

But it didn’t really matter—only the upper management worried about personnel changes. As a junior staff member, she just needed to do her job.

Han Wei, her university friend and close confidante, whispered conspiratorially, “I heard the new boss is really handsome—and he’s not married yet…”

Su Wan dismissed it, “So what?”

Whether the boss was handsome or single had nothing to do with her.

However…

When the tall, elegant man appeared, Su Wan was utterly stunned.

No way—the man she’d saved was the new company boss?
