Family Survival Guide 3
Her younger brother swung his legs back and forth on the sofa, holding a fork as he took bite after bite of the cake. Even if the cake were crawling with maggots, he would still be eating it with relish. Xu Si’s sharp eyes caught sight of a note tucked inside the cake!
She hesitated, unsure how to bring it up, when her grandmother spoke.
“If you want to eat, wait until your brother can’t finish it, then you can have some!” Grandma turned her head at a forty-five-degree angle, staring intently at Xu Si.
“All right… thank you, Grandma…” Xu Si swallowed obediently and pulled out a few steamed buns to offer her.
Grandma took the buns and immediately twisted her head back, directing a smile at Xu Si, though it was somewhat eerie.
“My good granddaughter, you truly are Grandma’s good granddaughter!”
With that, Grandma snatched the cake away and handed it to her.
Seeing the cake gone from his hands, the little brother flailed and rolled on the floor, crying loudly.
Hearing the cries, their mother dashed out quickly wielding a spatula and brought it down sharply on Xu Si’s head with a “bang.”
Xu Si touched her head, thinking to herself, luckily it was the little fairy she brought in this time; otherwise, she might have been beaten to death before even making it through the first challenge.
Meanwhile, the little fairy clutched her head, her expression filled with pain.
“As the older sister, you should yield to your brother. Look at other children’s families—does anyone fight with their brother over cake like you do?!” Their mother panted heavily, her face flushed red, hair sticking up wildly, head hanging low, teeth grinding audibly.
Xu Si handed the steamed buns to her mother, trying to calm her anger, but it seemed useless; the mother only grew angrier.
“If it weren’t for you, would it be this hard?” Her voice sharpened, and blood trickled from the corner of her mouth.
Xu Si recalled the fourth rule.
[If you want to avoid quarrels with your mother, you can retreat to your room and block the door. No family member will disturb you, but they will watch you from the shadows.]
Quickly pulling out the note, she shoved the cake back into her brother’s hands and said, “Sorry, Mom, it’s all my fault. Everything is my fault. I’ll go back to my room and read right away!”
Hearing her admit guilt, her mother gradually calmed down.
Xu Si hurried toward her room, but just as she was about to step inside, she suddenly heard her brother speak up: “It wasn’t sister who took my cake, it was Grandma. Grandma gave it to her!”
Their mother snorted, “So what? Scolding her a little won’t hurt. I’m her mother!”
Xu Si’s mouth twitched at this moment, utterly speechless.
She had the little fairy block the door, then sat down on a chair and carefully examined the new note.
