Volume One, Chapter Nine: The Brothers Take Tuan Tuan Home
Yang Qixiu couldn't help but ask, "Tuantuan, what's wrong?"
"Second Brother, how come I didn't see Sun Wukong?"
The brothers chuckled. Tuantuan was truly adorable to still be thinking about the Monkey King. Yet, how could they tell her that he didn't exist, and that these were just fairy tales used to trick children?
Not wanting to crush her wonder and belief in myths, they found an excuse: "Tuantuan, the Heavenly Palace is above the tenth heaven. Airplanes can't fly that high, so we can't see Sun Wukong for now."
Tuantuan nodded, glanced at the white clouds outside, and said in her soft, milky voice, "Then, when I grow up, I'll fly to the tenth heaven myself and become friends with Sun Wukong. I also want to eat a flat peach. I'll bring one back for each of my brothers so that none of you will ever die."
The child's innocent words touched the hearts of the five brothers deeply. They didn't mind the mention of death; they only heard how much she cared for them and wanted them to live long, healthy lives! Their sister had finally accepted them! That was the most important thing. As for the flat peaches, they were just make-believe, but the sentiment was real.
The brothers were so moved they wanted to scoop her up and lift her high; the little dumpling was just too cute to resist. Looking at her small face, they all simultaneously thought of the same thing.
Tuantuan’s self-healing ability was extraordinary. In just a few days, her wounds had healed significantly. The bruises on her face had completely faded, her skin looked much clearer, and even the doctors were amazed by her miraculous recovery. It was something an ordinary person could never achieve. Yang Chengze kept this in mind, planning to take her for a full physical examination once they reached Kyoto and find a chance to ask her about that dream she mentioned.
...
The plane landed. The little dumpling was still sleeping, and Yang Chengze couldn't bear to wake her. He picked her up with the utmost caution, afraid of disturbing her. She felt weightless in his arms—she was just too thin. Once they got home, he decided, he would make sure she ate plenty of meat to grow strong!
"Big Brother, let me hold her for a while. Don't tire yourself out." The other brothers, watching him carry her, rubbed their hands, eager for a turn.
Yang Qixiu stepped forward, intending to openly snatch her away, but Yang Chengze wasn't about to give him the chance. Before Qixiu could speak, the eldest brother lowered his voice and said, "Second brother, you're too kind, but I'm not tired! Don't wake her."
With that, Yang Chengze strode forward as if being chased by a wild beast. The other brothers, seeing her peaceful, milky sleeping face, didn't have the heart to disturb her either.
Meanwhile, the Yang family’s cars were already waiting at the exit for the five young masters and their returning sister. Before they arrived, Yang Chengze had informed the family that they had found her. Their father’s health had improved significantly from the joy, and their grandparents had been waiting eagerly since early morning. Had they been told sooner, they would have insisted on waiting at the airport themselves.
Five stretched Lincolns parked outside drew everyone's attention. With such a display, people wondered who they were there to pick up—even the biggest celebrities didn't command such a scene!
Yang Chengze carried Tuantuan, while his four brothers, wearing sunglasses and trench coats, looked incredibly stylish as they walked.
"My goodness, which young heiress has returned to the country?"
"Isn't that Yang Suiyi?"
"Where is my husband? Where is he?"
"Wow, are these the five Yang brothers? I can't believe it! I'm taking a picture for my social media!"
"Who is the little dumpling being carried? Secretary Zhang, give me one minute—I want every detail on the little princess!"
The brothers hurried into the cars, shielding Tuantuan and terrified that the spectacle might frighten her. Through the window, she watched the towering buildings, her large, dark eyes blinking, her long lashes casting shadows on her cheeks. The endless flow of traffic was a world she had never seen, and she couldn't help but feel a little nervous.
Yang Chengze hugged her gently and comforted her: "Don't be afraid, Tuantuan. This is where you will live from now on. Don't be scared when you see Grandpa, Grandma, and Father later; they are your family, and they will love you just as much as your brothers do."
Noticing that her brothers never mentioned their mother, she leaned close to Yang Chengze and whispered, "What about Mommy?"
Mommy... The brothers’ hearts sank with the same shared grief. Yang Chengze had to be honest: "Mommy passed away two years ago due to a serious illness. She left this world and went to heaven..."
The little girl’s nose wrinkled, and she sniffled, tears welling up in her eyes. "But just now, in the sky, Mommy didn't come to see me... Does Mommy not like Tuantuan?"
Her choked voice tore at their hearts. The eldest brother quickly explained, "That’s not true. Mommy loved you the most. Her last wish before she passed was to see you. Tuantuan, when we get home, I’ll show you photos of her, okay? She even left a video recording for when you returned."
The second brother followed up softly, "Mommy loved you the most and cared for you the most. She would be so happy to know you’re back. When we get home, shall we go see her together?"
Tuantuan’s sorrow affected Xiao Mei, who was inside the pendant. Having been dead for so many years, who had ever missed her like this? Xiao Mei comforted her: "Don't cry, little one. Your mother's death wasn't as simple as it seems. I’ll tell you more when we get home."
Hearing this, Tuantuan stopped crying; she wanted to know the truth. With tears dampening her long lashes, she looked at her second brother with wet, grape-like eyes and gave a small nod.
Watching her struggle to control her emotions was painful for the brothers. Since their mother was gone, they had to be twice as good to their sister; they would never let her suffer the slightest grievance!
The car arrived at the Yang family estate. Along the way, the brothers had continued to comfort her, and she felt much better. The estate was located in the suburbs, covering ten thousand square meters, nestled against mountains and water—a tranquil, fragrant paradise.
When Tuantuan stepped out, she saw a sika deer grazing on the lawn and large birds playing by the lake. She was stunned by the sight, though she frowned instinctively as she noticed a layer of dark, ominous energy shrouding the estate.
Yang Chengze carried her down a red carpet as the uniformed staff lined up to welcome her: "Welcome home, Miss."
The display was grand. Grandpa Yang Nanqiao and Grandma Wan Yunzhi approached, their eyes filled with tears and their expressions full of tenderness. Beside them stood their father, Yang Jinchuan, a beautiful woman, and a six-year-old girl.
Since Tuantuan’s disappearance, the Yang family had been draped in a thick, lingering gloom. Combined with the death of Ai Zi, Yang Jinchuan had fallen into a long illness, and with the brothers busy with their careers, the house hadn't been this lively in a long time.
Grandma Wan Yunzhi walked forward, clutching Tuantuan’s hand, her eyes brimming with tears: "It’s Tuantuan, our precious granddaughter is back."
Having seen photos of her family on the way, Tuantuan recognized her grandparents. She leaned forward and gently wiped her grandmother’s tears with her small hand, her eyes full of concern: "Don't cry, don't cry. Tuantuan is back."
The child's comfort caused the grandmother’s tears to flow even more freely; the little girl was just too endearing.
"Grandpa~" Her soft, milky voice instantly melted the heart of the most formidable man in the family. Grandpa Yang approached with red-rimmed eyes, took her, and held her gently: "Tuantuan, I’m Grandpa. You’re back—it’s so good." He felt as though he could live for another few decades!
Yang Jinchuan approached, his eyes also red as he gazed at her. Tuantuan’s eyes landed on her father, and a flash of shock crossed her face. Her small body stiffened suddenly, as if she had seen something that filled her with terror...
