Chapter Seventy-Two: Keep a Close Watch
The one with the most authority to answer this question would naturally be Wang Yuluo, the deceased. Unfortunately, the dead cannot respond to the living’s inquiries.
Yet, though Wang Yuluo cannot answer, someone else has found the answer for them.
When Kang Ge came to see them, he brought not only the information Ning Shuyi needed, but also two portions of dinner.
Ning Shuyi, familiar with Kang Ge thanks to her best friend Yan Xue, dispensed with polite formalities, thanked him straightforwardly, and took the meal box, ready to dig in. Huo Yan hesitated, about to refuse, but Kang Ge, as if reading his mind, placed the meal box on his desk.
“Everyone gets one, it’s not a special favor,” Kang Ge said with a cheerful smile to Huo Yan, then, without giving him a chance to respond, pulled up a chair, sat beside them, and stretched lazily. “I spent ages talking circles with that IT guy. We’re police, after all, got to keep up appearances. Sitting so upright for so long nearly wore me out!
Luckily, the kid couldn’t hold out in the end and confessed everything he needed to. Otherwise, my old back would have suffered in vain!”
“What IT guy?” Ning Shuyi perked up at his words. “The one who hacked into Wang Yuluo’s phone to delete things?”
“Yes, that’s him!” Kang Ge nodded, signaling for them to listen while they ate. “I used a little trick—‘Golden Hook Phishing’—and fished him out. Then, using his own methods against him, I pulled all his personal information from his phone, down to the last detail!
He’s a programmer in a private company in W City, a seasoned homebody, and a diehard fan of Lamb Lamb. He treats her like a spiritual wife, fiercely protective.
When we went to his company to find him, he was so terrified he collapsed in his chair and couldn’t stand for ages.
Brought to the station, he was even more timid—couldn’t cover up a thing, confessed it all.
He said he’s always been in Lamb Lamb’s fan group, never had much chance to talk to her, but helped solve computer problems for others, so people knew he was a programmer.
This time, Lamb Lamb approached him directly, asked him to hack Wang Yuluo’s phone and trick her with a fake prize pop-up. As for the movie tickets, Lamb Lamb had booked them in advance and sent the collection code to her programmer fan.
The programmer didn’t know Lamb Lamb’s true intentions, thought his goddess wanted to surprise a friend, and, flattered, took on the mission, completing it smoothly.
He never expected that after helping his goddess, barely basking in her favor for a few days, Lamb Lamb contacted him again in a panic, asking him to delete all information about the movie tickets from Wang Yuluo’s phone.
Lamb Lamb’s version was that she played a prank on a friend, but things went wrong—the friend had a weak heart and died halfway through the movie. Lamb Lamb was afraid of trouble.
The programmer was loyal enough—not only did he delete all the movie ticket information, but, thinking himself clever, wiped out anything in the phone related to Lamb Lamb, believing it flawless. Ironically, it only made things more conspicuous.”
Ning Shuyi smacked her thigh in realization. “That explains it! I was just wondering why Wang Yuluo would accept movie tickets from Lamb Lamb, who wasn’t close to her. Now the answer’s clear! And the deleted post about the movie tickets—the tickets, the ‘Frog Prince,’ it all seemed strange before, but now it makes sense!”
Huo Yan pushed aside his meal after a few bites. “Let’s go find this Lamb Lamb! After finding the programmer, if she’s alerted and escapes, all our work will be wasted.”
“Don’t rush, sharpening the knife doesn’t delay chopping firewood. You should finish your meal first!” Ning Shuyi motioned for him to sit. “Now we only know Lamb Lamb’s real name is Yang Huishu. We don’t have all her information yet, so rushing out won’t do much.
When I checked her video account before, I noticed she streams twice a week at night. Today’s Thursday, her streaming day, so she’ll definitely be online. We can use this to confirm she hasn’t been scared off and run away, and also to quickly pinpoint her location.”
Huo Yan listened to Ning Shuyi’s reasoning and found it sensible, though he didn’t sit down again. Instead, he picked up his meal box and, to Ning Shuyi’s astonishment, polished off the dinner in a few swift bites.
He tossed the empty meal box in the trash and looked at Kang Ge. “I don’t know much about locating people online, but if you need help, I’m ready. Time is of the essence—let’s get started.”
Even though Kang Ge was long used to his partner Yan Xue’s whirlwind style, he was startled by Huo Yan’s decisive action.
But seeing Ning Shuyi still eating slowly, Kang Ge laughed. “Alright, you come with me over there.
Shuyi, your job is to eat and keep watch in Yang Huishu’s livestream room. If she acts strangely during the stream, we’ll move immediately!”
“Got it, leave it to me!” Ning Shuyi nodded, expertly opened the app, searched for Lamb Lamb’s stream, and saw the indicator showing she was live. She flashed an “OK” gesture to Kang Ge and Huo Yan.
Lamb Lamb’s livestream was still lively. Although her indirect involvement in the Wang Yuluo incident had caused some trouble and a dip in her follower count, the impact seemed minor.
After all, everyone thinks differently. Some, like Lamb Lamb herself, harbor a peculiar dislike for wealthy, capricious players. Most are just bystanders, uninterested in the drama.
The quarrel between two beautiful cosplayers didn’t stop them from watching—it wasn’t about taking sides or caring about right and wrong; they simply wanted to look at beautiful people and things to pass their idle hours.
Lamb Lamb, or rather Yang Huishu, appeared to be in good spirits. Bathed in warm, gentle light, her face adorned with exquisite makeup, she crafted a lovely hairpin while occasionally reading and responding to viewers’ comments.
The atmosphere was as tranquil as ever, her demeanor serene and ethereal.
Yet, after uncovering her secret manipulations against Wang Yuluo, seeing Yang Huishu’s online persona again, Ning Shuyi’s feelings grew increasingly strange.
