Chapter Thirty-Two: The Post
"Has the post generated any buzz?" Ning Shuyi asked.
"At first, it was nothing special. The comments underneath quickly split into two camps. One sympathized with him, cursed materialistic women, comforted him, and hoped he'd pull himself together, not care about a woman unworthy of him, assuring him he'd meet someone better in the future.
The other camp questioned his one-sided account, saying he had no proof and was just bitter about his ex dumping him, his pride wounded, acting petty—they accused him of deliberately smearing her online for revenge.
Apparently, Li Qiao couldn't handle those doubting his cathartic outpouring, so he kept adding follow-up posts. The more he wrote, the more ridiculous it became, and in the end he painted Wang Yuluo as utterly monstrous, though he could offer no concrete examples, only his own feelings and opinions.
But since he was angrily denouncing his unfaithful ex, the crowd egged him on, and his supporters grew. I think the guy actually became intoxicated by the praise and encouragement he received."
"Did he express any intention to get even, or show he couldn't swallow his pride?" Ning Shuyi asked.
"No, and that’s the most interesting part. That fool, whether genuinely carried away or not, started telling others he had a revenge plan—he’d win his ex back, make her fall for him again, and then, at the right moment, turn the tables and repay her for all the pain she caused him.
Even then, some were still goading him on. Then, he began asking people in the group about legal methods—whether through agreements or something else—to turn his girlfriend’s premarital assets into their joint property after marriage."
Ning Shuyi listened to Luo Wei’s account of Li Qiao’s online antics while sipping water, but at this point she was so surprised she choked and started coughing.
"You choked too, right?" Luo Wei laughed on the other end. "I was drinking coffee while reading the post, and nearly sprayed the screen—almost damaged company property!
That Li Qiao, who knows how his mind works. Already, mistaking those instigators for supporters was absurd, and then he asked such a question!
After that, the whole comment section was full of insults, running several pages. Someone must have shared his words elsewhere. Later, people came just to check in, as if the post was some attraction for marveling at oddities.
Eventually, Li Qiao disappeared from the post entirely, probably realizing there was no way to turn public opinion in his favor anymore."
"His intelligence is almost touching," Ning Shuyi sighed once her breathing had settled.
"There’s something even more touching," Luo Wei continued. "I dug up surveillance footage showing he once furtively followed Wang Yuluo, loitering mysteriously around her residential complex, and even deliberately staged 'chance encounters.'
But in my experience, after I finish investigating this guy for you, you’ll see he’s not worth worrying about. He’s had no recent contact with Wang Yuluo—no phone calls, no messaging, which you can confirm yourself on her phone. Even during those orchestrated encounters, judging by Wang Yuluo’s attitude, I’d say he doesn’t stand a chance. The lady probably never considered getting back with him.
So, if Wang Yuluo were killed in a fit of rage or kidnapped, maybe he’d be a suspect. But as for things like secretly sending movie tickets, approaching her unnoticed, or slipping something into her drinks, I think that’s much harder for him."
"You said Li Qiao followed Wang Yuluo before, right? Was it just once or twice, or more frequent?" Ning Shuyi pondered and asked.
"Many times! Just from surveillance near her home and her graduate prep classes, I spotted at least five or six incidents. He was so furtive it’s hard to know what to say! Not bright, yet trying to act like a criminal—tsk tsk!
The most amusing part is his so-called cleverness. Twice he used a shared car to tail Wang Yuluo, but not only did that make his identity traceable, we could track exactly where he went with the car too!" Luo Wei replied.
"Send me the evidence of him tailing Wang Yuluo, and his company address," Ning Shuyi said, now having a plan. "Let’s pay him a visit at his office!"
"You’re not still suspecting him, are you?" Luo Wei thought Li Qiao’s antics were so blatant they broadcast his intelligence level to the world. He didn’t believe Li Qiao had the subtlety to quietly kill someone.
"Whether I suspect him or not, we’ll see after meeting him," Ning Shuyi replied vaguely. "Just make sure you send me everything, as complete as possible. Thanks!"
Not long after hanging up, Luo Wei sent over all the information Ning Shuyi had requested, just as thoroughly as she’d asked.
Ning Shuyi confirmed Li Qiao’s company address from the information, entered it into the GPS, and waved to Huo Yan: "Come on! Let’s go observe the civilized monkey!"
Given what Luo Wei had said about Li Qiao’s behavior, Huo Yan seemed amused by her teasing, but he was so used to hiding his feelings that his lips only twitched slightly before returning to a straight line.
It wasn’t far from W City People’s Hospital to Li Qiao’s company; after about ten minutes, they arrived at the office building.
After parking, Ning Shuyi and Huo Yan entered the lobby. There were two rows of sofas on one side. Ning Shuyi nudged Huo Yan with her elbow and pointed toward the elevator: "Go upstairs and fetch him down. If I go up, he’ll make endless excuses and objections—it’ll take ages. If you go, just keep your usual quiet demeanor, and I guarantee he’ll come down without a word of protest."
"Are you sure?" Huo Yan didn’t mind making the trip but was puzzled by Ning Shuyi’s certainty.
"Absolutely, positively, and definitely!" Ning Shuyi nodded. "Trust me—timid people always act the same. They’re bold with the weak, but when faced with strength, they turn docile, like little lambs!"
