Chapter 131: Quite Ordinary, Isn't It?
Given how clever she was, how could this girl not guess Lin Fan’s thoughts from just a moment ago? He must have felt dejected seeing her laughing and chatting with Xue Yang. However, seeing Lin Fan’s cold, jealous face, Zhao Ying felt a surge of happiness and satisfaction. "I missed you very, very much," she said.
Hearing this, a wicked, mischievous smile tugged at the corner of Lin Fan’s mouth. "Where did you miss me?" he asked, placing his hands directly on her delicate shoulders and fixing his gaze on certain parts of her.
Autumn had arrived, and the nights in the north had turned chilly. The heat radiating from Lin Fan’s hands seeped into her body. "Everywhere," Zhao Ying replied, her face flushing crimson as she cast a gentle, reproachful glance at him. She realized she had changed a lot in front of Lin Fan, becoming like a gentle little lamb—this must be the power of love, she thought to herself.
Lin Fan chuckled and whispered something into Zhao Ying’s ear. Her face immediately turned beet red, and she let out a soft, coy protest, though a hint of anticipation clearly lingered in her eyes.
Seeing that Lin Fan and Zhao Ying were getting carried away with their intimacy, Xue Yang curled his lip in annoyance and walked over. He looked Lin Fan up and down before turning to Zhao Ying. "Sis, is this your boyfriend? He doesn’t look like much—not even as handsome as me."
Lin Fan pouted. He had always been quite confident in his appearance. Being struck down by Xue Yang like this, a look of wry amusement appeared on his face. Was he really not handsome?
In truth, because of his bangs, Lin Fan did look a bit boyish, but his face was exceptionally well-defined with regular features. At a cursory glance, he looked no different from an ordinary person. However, if one took a second, inadvertent look, they would find him remarkably easy on the eyes. In particular, the faint scar hidden beneath his bangs added an air of maturity and dominance to his presence.
Zhao Ying glared at Xue Yang and said to Lin Fan, "This is my cousin, Xue Yang." Then, turning to Xue Yang, she added, "This is your brother-in-law, Lin Fan."
"Sis, isn't he getting promoted to 'brother-in-law' a bit too fast?" Xue Yang clearly hadn't expected such an introduction. In his view, given his cousin’s family background, she should be looking for someone rich, handsome, and powerful. How could she have picked this boyish-looking person in front of him? He looked at Lin Fan carefully once more and decided he was just passable. "Brother-in-law?" he muttered under his breath.
Lin Fan couldn't care less what Xue Yang thought; he rather enjoyed the title. He chuckled and extended his hand with a bright smile. "So, my brother-in-law, is it? Nice to meet you."
Zhao Ying shot Lin Fan a sharp look—there was no gentleness in it at all—and said, "Look at you, all smug. I’ll settle the score for what happened earlier when we get back."
Lin Fan gave a bitter smile and shrugged. It was true; Zhao Ying was right to settle the score. After all, he had misunderstood her earlier and stood there sulking like a statue. It was only fair that she was angry. As long as she didn't kick him out of bed, he thought, harboring a slightly wicked notion.
"Sis, let's go eat. I've been waiting for this guy until I’m starving," Xue Yang said. He clearly didn’t think much of Lin Fan. Of the "tall, rich, and handsome" trio, Lin Fan only seemed to qualify for "tall." His clothes were ordinary, even showing traces of dust and blood on his trousers, and his looks weren't particularly striking. He felt something was missing for someone to be his sister’s partner.
In reality, Lin Fan hadn't packed many clothes, and after hiking through the mountains, they were naturally a bit dirty. As for the blood—having killed so many people, how could he be clean? Unfortunately, Xue Yang knew none of this. In his eyes, a common man like Lin Fan could never be a cold-blooded demon.
Whether he was a demon or not, Lin Fan didn't know, but he did know he wasn't a good person. Strictly speaking, he was a villain!
"How rude!" Zhao Ying scolded, clearly acting the part of the older sister. She was exasperated, but there was nothing to be done; her cousin was a complete "second-generation rich kid." Relying on his father’s connections and his status as Zhao Fanglin’s son, he was something of a menace in SH City. Still, for all his mischief and play, he never caused any major trouble—he mostly just hung out with a group of fair-weather friends, eating, drinking, and having fun.
Lin Fan gave a sheepish smile, withdrew his hand, and tapped Xue Yang lightly on the shoulder. "Kid, you've got character. I like that."
This seemingly light tap was more than the young master could handle. A sharp, aching pain radiated from his shoulder, and he couldn't help but gasp. Fortunately, Lin Fan didn't make things difficult for him and pulled his hand back immediately.
Xue Yang turned back and looked at Lin Fan in shock, clearly not expecting him to have such strength. Nevertheless, he curled his lip in disdain. In his worldview, only money and power mattered. Even if you could kill me with a slap, do you have the guts to do it? In other words, even if you were given three times the courage, you wouldn't dare.
"Let's go, let's go eat, alright?" Zhao Ying, clearly unable to handle Xue Yang any longer, urged them along and took the lead.
Lin Fan smiled, hurried forward, took off his coat, and wrapped it around Zhao Ying. "The weather is changing too fast; be careful not to catch a cold."
"Mm," Zhao Ying smiled. "I hope winter comes soon. I love snow. You’ll have to keep me company and watch the snow with me then."
Lin Fan let out a wicked chuckle and whispered, "That’s a minor detail. Let’s focus on the 'major' task at hand later."
Zhao Ying’s face flushed slightly, but she said nothing, letting Lin Fan pull her along as they walked outside. Xue Yang didn't say anything about this; although he wasn't satisfied with Lin Fan, he didn't dare offend Zhao Ying, so he had to follow, lest he be left without a ride.
That evening, the three of them found a restaurant featuring T-City specialties. Since Xue Yang had just arrived from SH City, Zhao Ying naturally wanted to treat her cousin to the local delicacies.
Lin Fan had never been picky about food and was happy with whatever Zhao Ying arranged. However, with Xue Yang present, he had to behave himself, only managing to tease Zhao Ying a few times when Xue Yang went to the restroom. Fortunately, the meal ended quickly.
"Xue Yang, you go ahead and drive back. I've already called my dad; I won't be heading back tonight," Zhao Ying said after leaving the restaurant, clutching Lin Fan’s arm.
"What? Sis, did I hear that right? You’re not planning to go get a room with him, are you?" Xue Yang was clearly incredulous. He knew his cousin better than anyone; she was definitely not the kind of woman to casually get a room with a man. He truly couldn't understand what was so special about this Lin Fan.
Lin Fan, Lin Fan... he looked so ordinary, Xue Yang frowned slightly, still unable to see what was so extraordinary about him.
