Chapter 4: Abducting the Scientist [Please Subscribe]
"Lucian, is this the kind of scientist you’ve brought back?"
"Damn it... do you expect these two geezers who can barely stand to serve the great deity?"
In the spacious air-raid shelter of the sewers, Lucian glared at the two frail, staggering old men before him, his eyes filled with cold, murderous intent as he roared at the burly black man not far away.
"Lucian, human authorities have been placing great importance on the protection of these scientists. We aren't just facing the pursuit of the Death Dealers; we have to be on guard against the humans as well..."
The burly black man lowered his head, offering a stammering explanation.
"Damn it... excuses, all excuses. You know, Raze, I don't need explanations; I need results."
After a growl, a ferocious glint flickered in Lucian’s eyes. He stood up from his chair, his face full of impatience. "For such a trivial matter to require me to intervene personally—it seems I really should consider whether I need a more capable assistant."
Despite his extreme dissatisfaction, Lucian knew this was the inherent weakness of the Lycan race.
To put it bluntly, they lacked brains and their primal instincts were hard to suppress. While modern Lycans were not like the first generation, who were completely devoid of reason—ever since him, Lycans possessed wisdom and the ability to revert to human form, among many other traits—their bloodline ultimately traced back to the progenitor, Alexander Corvinus, and his son, William. The savage, violent factors in their genes were not easily purged.
This was why most Lycans were irritable, impulsive, and brainless brutes; only the older ones gradually learned to use their heads to handle problems.
Speaking of age, among the current Lycan clan, besides himself, Raze was the oldest. He wanted to find a few capable assistants, but the newly turned Lycans were clearly unqualified—they were all bloodthirsty and manic, like powder kegs that would ignite at the slightest touch. The thought gave Lucian a massive headache.
"Now, give me the intel you gathered. I will handle this myself. Our Lycan race needs the guidance of the great God of Bloodline Warlocks; only He can lead our Lycan clan out of our current predicament."
"Lucian, let me take some men to provide cover for you. Those human research facilities are heavily guarded. If I lead the way and clear a path, it should be easier for you to succeed."
Watching Lucian, whose eyes were flickering with fire, the burly black man raised his head and said with a solemn expression.
"Very well. I hope you won't disappoint me this time. Go gather the men; we leave immediately!"
Nodding at the man, Lucian turned and left the shelter.
...
Under the cover of night, a group of dark shadows surged out of the sewers, heading toward the city.
This group moved with incredible speed, swift as the wind. Under the pitch-black night sky, they would be impossible to detect without careful observation.
"This is it. This is one of the research labs where humans study drugs. I spent a fortune in the black market to find this out."
At a remote street corner, the burly black man hid in a dark alley, pointing toward a medieval-style building that resembled a circular tower.
"Excellent. The tighter the security, the more outstanding the researchers within must be. The great Majesty will surely love this gift."
Looking at the guards patrolling every five steps, fully armed, Lucian was not startled but delighted. He whispered instructions to the Lycans behind him: "When the time comes, charge out together to draw their fire, and I will take the opportunity to slip in and abduct the researchers."
"For the great God of Bloodline Warlocks, charge!"
"Awoo... Awoo..."
The group of Lycans offered a collective prayer, and accompanied by a chorus of howls, they charged at the guards.
"Damn it, it's the Lycans! Everyone, be careful! Fire!"
"Bang, bang, bang... rat-tat-tat..."
Seeing the Lycans pouring out of the corners, the guards surrounding the tower were shocked. Their faces changed instantly, and they pulled their triggers.
"Pfft, pfft, pfft... Argh... hiss..."
"Switch to silver bullets, everyone!"
Having emptied his magazine, one of the guards shouted a warning, pulling a special magazine from his holster and loading it.
"Bang, bang, bang... pfft, pfft, pfft..."
"Watch out!"
"Awoo..."
Seeing his companions suffer several casualties in such a short time, Raze’s expression shifted, and he shouted a warning.
Unfortunately, these transformed Lycans had already lost their senses to rage; they wouldn't listen to him, launching a suicidal charge at the guards one after another.
"Awoo... Argh... damn scum..."
"Damn it... these lunatics... bang, bang, bang..."
"..."
In an instant, the scene turned into chaos. Any guard caught in close quarters could not escape the Lycans' fangs. Both sides fought until blood and flesh flew, and both suffered losses.
However, compared to the well-equipped guards, the Lycans were faring much worse, with dozens dying in a short time.
At this moment, under the cover of the pack, Lucian led two subordinates and slipped into the laboratory silently, biting anyone in their path.
"Oh... no... bang, bang, bang..."
"Damn it... Awoo..."
Watching the researchers firing at him, Lucian roared. He was not an ordinary Lycan; even silver bullets could not stop him—at most, they would cause him some pain for a while.
"Tell me, where are your lead researchers!"
Grabbing a young man who was trying to escape, Lucian bared his fangs and roared.
"In... in the basement..."
"You two, take him and have him lead the way!"
Tossing the youth to one of his men, Lucian took the lead and slaughtered his way toward the basement.
"Bam, bam, bam... boom..."
"Who are you..."
In a sealed basement, hearing the crashing sounds at the door, five researchers were huddled in the corner of the lab in a panic, staring in terror at the blood-stained Lucian who had barged in.
"Oh... my dear doctors, don't be afraid. I'm a good guy; I won't hurt you."
As he spoke, Lucian’s fangs protruded, and he charged at the researchers.
"No... don't... please..."
"You disgusting scum... get away..."
"No... God... you filthy Lycan, God will not forgive you..."
"..."
No matter how they struggled, they were no match for the powerful Lucian. Before long, they fell under his fangs.
"Take them. Four days from now is the night of the full moon; by then, they will be members of my Lycan clan."
Ordering his two subordinates, Lucian hoisted two of the researchers and charged back out.
...
Meanwhile, in the vampire castle, a dinner party was underway.
"Boom..."
Suddenly, the heavy doors were kicked open. A woman dressed in black leather, looking heroic and spirited, with a long sword on her back and two pistols at her waist, stormed in.
The woman had flowing black hair and exquisite, sharp-featured facial contours. Her figure was graceful, her skin like white jade, and her deep blue eyes were like elves in the night—noble, cold, and breathtakingly beautiful.
"Selene, what are you doing! This is the gathering place of our coven. As a noble vampire, how can you be so rude? You must give me an explanation today."
Looking at the woman's rude behavior, a man with deep-set eyes and brown hair, holding a glass of red wine, stood up, suppressing his anger, and growled.
"This is the explanation you want!"
Throwing the newspaper in her hand in front of the man, the woman looked indifferent, meeting his gaze without fear. "The Lycan clan has become increasingly rampant. In just three days, three labs in London have been attacked. They must have some conspiracy. If you continue to restrict our actions, I will report this to Elder Amelia."
"Lycan attacks happen a few times every year. You tell me it's a conspiracy? That’s a joke. Based on those ignorant beasts who have nothing but rage in their brains, I don't believe they possess such intelligence!"
Kraven picked up the newspaper from the table, glanced at it, and threw it to the floor with disdain. "If you want to go complain to Elder Amelia, suit yourself. But don't forget, I am the agent for the London headquarters. Right now, I have the highest authority here. If you dare to act on your own again, I will not be lenient."
"Don't forget, I am the Commander of the Death Dealers. Viktor has only just entered his slumber. If you aren't afraid of causing a major incident and waking him up, then do as you please!"
Facing Kraven's threat, Selene was not afraid in the slightest and swept out of the room.
"You..."
Hearing Selene mention Viktor, Kraven's expression changed slightly. At the same time, he decided that after some time, he would personally go and ask Lucian what on earth he was up to, and why he had been targeted by a madwoman like Selene.
...
The next night, a full moon hung high in the sky.
In the suburbs of London, a massive sewage cistern was gathered with thousands of Lycans.
In the center of the cistern stood a statue over ten feet tall. The statue was roughly carved with blurred features, but one could vaguely discern that it wore a black-and-white robe, with a giant three-legged toad crouching at its feet.
On the ground around the statue lay over a dozen unconscious humans, both young and old.
Without exception, they were all wearing white lab coats, their faces pale as if they had lost too much blood.
"My kin, over the past few days, under the guidance of the great God of Bloodline Warlocks, we have developed many new brothers and sisters. Our clan has grown strong. Although we have suffered heavy losses, compared to our gains, these losses are truly insignificant."
"Let us all offer our most pious faith to the great God of Bloodline Warlocks!"
"Oh, great God of Bloodline Warlocks! You are the origin of bloodline warlocks, the savior of the Lycan race..."
Led by Lucian, the Lycans knelt on the ground, praying to the statue and conducting an unorthodox prayer ritual.
As the full moon rose higher, the dozen humans on the ground began to change. Their muzzles protruded, their bones deformed, their bodies grew larger, and a thick layer of black fur sprouted.
"Awoo... Awoo..."
In an instant, a chorus of howls echoed through the underground cistern. The Lycans kneeling on the ground, influenced by the full moon, also transformed one after another.
One by one, tall or short, fat or thin, the Lycans let out long, resonant howls toward the moon in the sky.
This sacrificial ritual lasted the entire night. It wasn't until the sky began to turn white that the group of Lycans gradually calmed down and retreated back into the dark, damp sewers.
