The staff member was a young woman as well. Hearing this, she smiled and said, “Alright, just sign your name here.”

After signing, Lin Jingyue easily carried the enormous package out of the post office.

The staff member was stunned.

What remarkable strength.

Lin Jingyue hefted the package; it weighed at least fifty or sixty pounds. She had no idea what was inside. Judging by the postmark, it looked like it had been sent from An City. That was odd—neither the Wu family nor the Lin family would send her anything.

So who could it be?

Pondering this, she strapped the package to the rear seat, mounted her bicycle, and headed back to the brigade.

Halfway there, realizing she shouldn't waste the trip, she found a secluded spot, stowed both the bicycle and the package in her space, then changed her appearance and took a stroll through the street market and the black market.

Her bag was now over seventy yuan heavier. Satisfied, she traded back for her dress, retrieved her bicycle and package, and finally returned to the brigade.

“Comrade Lin, wait, Comrade Lin…”

On the way, she unexpectedly ran into Aunt Liu. Lin Jingyue’s eyes narrowed, and she quickly pedaled past, breezing by like the wind.

“Comrade Lin, Lin Jingyue…” Aunt Liu watched helplessly as Lin Jingyue sped away, fuming and cursing her every which way.

Lin Jingyue wasn’t bothered; Aunt Liu was always gossiping about her behind her back—she deserved it!

“Stop right there!” Just as Lin Jingyue was humming a tune, joy turned to disaster.

From both sides of the woods, men suddenly leapt out, looking fierce and brandishing knives.

She froze for a moment. Then, letting go of the brake as if in a panic, she shouted, “Ahh! Get out of the way, I can’t stop! Move! Move! I can’t control it…!”

“Hey, stop! Don’t come any closer!”

Bang!

“Damn it!”

The man in the road was knocked into the roadside ditch, his knife flying from his hand and landing dangerously close to his head.

Both Lin Jingyue and the other man were stunned by the coincidence—just a little further and that knife would have slit his throat.

“You little brat, I told you to stop! You just wouldn’t listen, huh? Today I’ll teach you a lesson,” snarled the remaining man, his face twisted with malice, knife in hand.

Lin Jingyue sat atop her bicycle, all innocence. “But it was you who jumped out of nowhere. How’s that my fault?”

So aggrieved.

“Still arguing?” The man glared at her. “Come here. Leave the package and the bike. Hand over your cash.”

Truly a fat sheep.

His eyes swept over her greedily, his gaze disgusting. “Pretty little thing, pale skin—you really are a delicate city girl.”

She must taste sweet.

Lin Jingyue’s eyes turned cold. How did he know she was from the city?

“Enough talk, Third. Drag her into the woods,” the man from the ditch limped over, staring at her as if he wanted to devour her alive.

Third seemed to remember this was the main road, so he stepped forward, reaching for her.

“No need for rough stuff. If you want to play a game, I’ll go myself,” Lin Jingyue smiled radiantly.

But her eyes were icy.

Yes, this was the main road. Not a good place for their deeds.

“At least you’re sensible,” the men thought she was just a frightened, delicate girl, growing smug.

“But what about the package and the bike? They’re both valuable,” Lin Jingyue said, feigning concern.

“We’ll carry them.”

How considerate.

Lin Jingyue strolled into the woods, grinning, while the two men struggled with the bike and package behind her. The sight was almost comical.

“This girl’s got a figure—she puts Widow Ma to shame,” the ditch-dweller’s eyes stuck to her.

Lin Jingyue’s gaze grew frostier.

Once they were deep in the woods, away from the road, she turned. “This is far enough; let’s do it here.”

“Oh, so eager, are you, darling—”

Bang!

“Ah!” As soon as he dropped the package and rubbed his fists, Lin Jingyue kicked him hard, sending him crashing into a tree and sliding to the ground.

The other man was stunned for a second, then furious.

“You little whore! You dare fight back?”

“I wouldn’t dare, I’m so scared,” Lin Jingyue’s voice was cool, her mockery obvious.

She seized the charging man, spun, and threw him over her shoulder.

He slammed hard into the ground.

While he howled, she snatched his knife. “Speak. Who sent you after me?”

He spat.

Smack! Lin Jingyue struck him with the flat of the blade, blood instantly trickling from the corner of his mouth.

The man on the ground stared in horror.

Lin Jingyue didn’t care. She dragged him over like a dead dog and dumped him next to his companion.

What followed was a flurry of fists.

“You scum, trying to rob your forebear!”

“Idiots! Filthy minds—let me knock some sense into you! Bam! Bam!”

“I’ll help you court death since you’re so eager. I’ll beat you to death!”

“Alive, you waste air; dead, you waste land. For the likes of you, half-dead is just right.”

“Disgrace to your ancestors! If they knew what you’d become, they’d be rolling in their graves…”

“Today, I’ll teach you what happens to unfilial descendants!”

By the time she’d vented her anger, the two men were unrecognizable, huddled together, too afraid to even feel their pain, staring at Lin Jingyue as if she were a demon.

“We… we were wrong…” they whimpered.

Lin Jingyue twirled the knife in her hand, light glinting off its cold, deadly edge.

Both men’s courage failed completely. “Please, madam, we were wrong! We’ll never do it again. Spare our lives…”

“Who sent you?” Lin Jingyue brushed back her hair, lifting her eyelids to give them a chilling glance.

“It was a pretty young woman…”

“But not as pretty as you!” the other man added hastily.

“Describe her—her face, any moles?”

“Big eyes, double eyelids, a mole on her chin.”

“And she told you to do what to me?” That little wretch Lin Xinyou was courting death.

When she got back, she’d kill her.

The pair stared at Lin Jingyue, terrified and speechless.

“Speak,” Lin Jingyue urged, smiling gently.

But her smile sent shivers down their spines. “…Rob you of your things and money, and then… violate you.”

Once they’d spoken, they wore the expressions of men resigned to death.

Lin Jingyue’s smile deepened, though her eyes remained cold. “I’ll give you a chance to live.”

“W-what?”

“An eye for an eye.”

“…What do you mean?”

Lin Jingyue rolled her eyes. “She told you to do those things to me—go do them to her instead.”

“If we do that, you’ll let us go?” The men were truly terrified now; this woman was ruthless.

The look in her eyes just now—she’d really meant to kill them.
