His beloved granddaughter cooked for him for the very first time, and naturally, he had to shower her with praise! Looking at the sumptuous meal before him, tears welled up in his eyes. Such a sensible, thoughtful granddaughter—she was truly worthy of his late son and daughter-in-law.

This child had suffered much—so young and yet without parents, forced to endure hardships alongside an old man like himself. It had indeed been a hard life for her. That was why he had always spoiled and indulged her. After all, she was his only descendant.

Thankfully, the hard times were finally behind them. The child had grown up, become sensible, and learned to be filial. How wonderful! When he passed on, he could face his son and daughter-in-law with a clear conscience.

He had cared for Ye Wan so well—he was a responsible grandfather. “Good child, even if I were to die now, I could die peacefully,” Ye Cheng said, tears gathering in his eyes.

“Pah, pah, pah! Grandpa, what nonsense are you talking about? Death, peace in death—don’t say such unlucky things! You have to live a long, long time—over a hundred, no, two hundred years!” Ye Wan immediately grew anxious.

Grandpa was so good. How could she allow him to say anything bad? Such a wonderful grandfather must live on for many years!

“Silly girl, if grandpa lived two hundred years, wouldn’t he be an old monster?” Ye Cheng laughed heartily, tears sparkling in his eyes.

He was very happy. Though he spoke lightly, inside he was deeply joyful. His granddaughter cared for him so much. It was truly a blessing. Over the years, his love for her had never been in vain.

“Anyway, that won’t happen. Grandpa, you have to see me happy, see my children happy, and many more things to come. So please, no more unlucky words, alright? Or I’ll get mad!” Ye Wan said earnestly.

She truly didn’t want her grandfather to leave her. After all, by blood and by love, he was the one who cared for her most. He had always given silently and unconditionally—for both her and the original owner. He was a wonderful grandfather.

There was still so much beauty in the world yet to be seen—peace, prosperity, the splendid era, countless beautiful things and sights. How could he leave now?

“All right, all right, grandpa will listen to his granddaughter. No more of those words. You have to live many more years. Life and death are fated; they’re not up to us!” Ye Cheng said with a smile.

This granddaughter of his was truly adorably naive. Of course, he understood how much she depended on her grandfather.

“Grandpa, alright, let’s eat quickly before it gets cold and tastes bad.” Ye Wan smiled.

“Come and taste my new cooking skills.” She used clean chopsticks to pick a tender piece of rabbit meat from the dish and placed it in his bowl, inviting him to try.

She remembered that her grandfather loved spicy food.

“All right, I’ll try my precious granddaughter’s cooking,” Ye Cheng said with a smile and took a bite of the rabbit meat.

The moment he bit into it, his eyes lit up!

How could his granddaughter’s cooking be so good? Her skills were truly remarkable! To cook something so delicious on her very first try—how extraordinary! It was a natural talent, absolute genius!

“Delicious! Wanwan’s rabbit meat tastes wonderful, fragrant and spicy just like grandpa likes. My Wanwan is amazing; even on her first time cooking, she did so well!” Ye Cheng exclaimed.

“Did you prepare the rabbit yourself?” he asked.

“Yes! I just fumbled through it. When you used to kill chickens, grandpa, I secretly watched a few times. So this time, I combined what I saw with my own ideas and managed to get the rabbit ready,” Ye Wan explained.

“I also secretly watched a few times how to cook, and when I was in school, I read some books about ingredients and made some notes by chance. So, this came in handy,” she added.

The original owner had been to school, so this was a perfectly natural explanation and wouldn’t arouse her grandfather’s suspicion.

What Ye Wan didn’t know was that Ye Cheng truly loved his granddaughter. No matter what surprising things she did, he never doubted her. He trusted and doted on her wholeheartedly.

Suspicion was out of the question, especially since she was the granddaughter he had watched grow up.

“Wanwan, you’re amazing! Grandpa is truly lucky,” Ye Cheng said with a smile, savoring the meal before him with great satisfaction and peace of mind.

His granddaughter was indeed remarkable!

“Grandpa, eat more. I made all this especially for you,” Ye Wan said.

She had awakened a golden talent. The rabbit was stewed with spring water, and the greens had also been infused with the same pure water, giving the dishes a flavor unlike ordinary vegetables.

“Today, this cabbage tastes especially comforting—so delicious and appetizing!” Ye Cheng said.

It really was delicious. For some reason, this cabbage was sweeter than usual. Perhaps it was the way it was prepared.

After a few bites, he felt a warmth spreading through his body. The rabbit meat energized him, making him feel vigorous and relaxed all over. It was quite extraordinary.

Ye Cheng didn’t understand why. In the past, his old leg always ached faintly, but now the pain was gone.

Why was that? Could it be a mere illusion?

No matter—pain gone was a good thing.

He continued eating.

For the first time, he ate two large bowls of rice and a generous amount of dishes. His appetite was especially good today.

After finishing, he felt comfortable all over, full of strength. His back no longer ached, and his posture straightened.

How strange!

What he failed to notice were subtle changes: a couple of wrinkles on his face had smoothed out, and some of his silver hair had darkened slightly.

These were tiny shifts.

Ye Wan didn’t notice either. She only felt that her grandfather seemed very spirited. Clearly, the spring water was effective.

She herself felt lighter and even a little fairer after eating. It was a good omen.

She was determined to shed this excess fat!

After the meal, she began tidying up. An hour later, she was running in the courtyard of their home.

She wanted to lose weight. Her mind was full of thoughts about slimming down.

Ye Cheng sat in the courtyard basking in the sun, watching his granddaughter run. His expression flickered between pride and concern—a complex mix of emotions.

Then he saw his granddaughter doing frog jumps and high leaps.

Goodness!

He had never seen his granddaughter like this before.

It was clear she was serious about losing weight this time.

He absolutely could not discourage her.

A little thinner would be good for her health.

No matter fat or thin, she was his precious granddaughter. As long as she was happy, that was all that mattered.

“If you’re tired, rest a bit, drink some water,” Ye Cheng said, his heart aching as he watched her persist for an hour.

“No problem, Grandpa! I can keep going! I want to lose weight!” Ye Wan replied determinedly.
