Volume One, Chapter Three: What Is This Person Talking About?

Wu Xingxue was stunned—who was speaking? Was it the other person sharing this space with her? But what was that person saying? Wu Xingxue only caught two strange syllables she couldn’t understand at all.
In her past life as a mercenary, Wu Xingxue had encountered people from many countries and had heard quite a few obscure languages, yet never anything like this. It sounded like it had a unique rhythm. The only thing she could be sure of was that the speaker was a man and was not from her own safe zone.
As far as she knew, there were three safe zones at present: the first, second, and third. She was in the second safe zone, which was inland, where barely two foreigners could be found, let alone one from a lesser-known country. The stranger’s identity grew ever more mysterious.
Wu Xingxue clenched the fruit in her palm, hesitating for a few seconds. No matter where this fruit came from, she had to solve the urgent problem before anything else. She decided to sell the fruit for money. Otherwise, with her current body, going to the crowded dormitory? That would be suicidal.
Evening was approaching quickly; she could no longer dawdle. Autumn had already arrived, and Wu Xingxue, wearing a summer short-sleeve shirt, exchanged a few homework sheets and a pencil with a half-grown child. She doodled on the paper and wrapped her only valuable anti-inflammatory medicine inside, folding it into a paper crane and placing it into the space.
“Consider this our trade,” Wu Xingxue murmured. Since they couldn’t communicate verbally, drawing pictures to guess each other’s meaning was the most convenient method. She silently prayed that her kindergarten-level drawings would be understood.
Without waiting to see the other’s reaction, Wu Xingxue hurried off. If she delayed any longer, the appraisal hall would close!

The prayer ceremony ended quickly, but He Cang still hadn’t figured out the anomaly within the ring’s world. Just as he returned to the cave, his confidant Amu arrived.
“Clan Chief,” Amu looked at He Cang’s wound with a mixture of disapproval and concern. “The elders of the Yi tribe said you shouldn’t attend the prayer ceremony with injuries like that, especially since you don’t believe in gods anyway.”
“Even with secret medicine every day, if you don’t care for your wounds properly, you might die. Why won’t you listen to the elders?”
The Yi elders were the most skilled herbalists among the Qionghu tribe and were highly respected. Amu had grown up with He Cang and was very close to him.
He Cang regarded Amu’s nagging without any impatience. “Don’t worry, I’m not dying anytime soon.”
Amu’s long tail whipped angrily behind him. “Not dying?! If it weren’t for the secret medicine, you’d have died that day! It’s all the fault of the Flying Wolf and Red Fox tribes! Their sneak attack was so treacherous and vile!”
“If I ever get the chance, I’ll skin them alive!”
“We orcs are always honorable and straightforward; for them to use such despicable tactics against the QionghI'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
