Chapter Thirteen: I Was Wrong, Please Stop Immediately!
Before Yang Pozi could even react, Grandma Sheng delivered a resounding slap.
“My precious daughter has been treated so poorly by you. Today, I’m going to settle this once and for all!”
Sheng Wanqiu watched as her grandmother, fierce as a lioness, grabbed Yang Pozi by the hair, her hand moving so fast it left a blur. Wanqiu couldn’t help but exclaim, “Good heavens!”
“Son, save me! She’s killing me!” Yang Pozi, unlike the original grandmother who was used to hard farm labor, was no match in strength. Although they were about the same age, the original grandmother’s physical stamina was on a different level.
Besides, the original grandmother was the daughter of a hunter, skilled with her hands. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been able to join the hunting expeditions into the mountains back then.
Yang Wei saw his mother being pinned to the ground and beaten and immediately rushed to help. Sheng Wanqiu blocked him coldly.
“What? Trying to bully my grandma? You must be crazy!” she sneered. “Take a stick to the face first!”
“Little aunt, go cry somewhere else! Don’t block me and ruin my rhythm!”
“Crying over a worthless man—your tears are just the water that’s leaked into your brain!”
Seeing the wooden stick in Sheng Wanqiu’s hand, Yang Wei quickly dodged behind Sheng Xiahua, even trying to push her forward as a shield.
Sheng Wanqiu showed no mercy. She pulled Sheng Xiahua aside and struck Yang Wei down with a single blow.
Yang Wei screamed in agony, clutching his injured leg on the ground.
“My leg! Is it broken? Ahhh! It hurts so much!”
“You dog! It’s not just your leg that should be broken! Take another one!” Sheng Wanqiu struck again, this time hitting his arm.
A crisp snap echoed—the arm was broken!
“Ahhh! It hurts so much! I’m sorry, please stop!”
“Wife, help! It hurts so much!”
Yang Wei writhed on the ground, screaming in pain. Yang Pozi, hearing her son’s cries, tried to come to his aid but was held back by Sheng Pozi, who grabbed her hair firmly.
Sheng Xiahua stared in shock at her niece and mother violently assaulting the Yang family mother and son. How did it escalate into such a fight?
---
“Master, this young lady is fierce and ruthless!” a man dressed in tight-fitting clothes stood by the window on the second floor of a tavern at the alley entrance, watching everything unfold.
“Sometimes, you can’t judge things by appearances.”
Lu Yu watched coldly as the brawl below unfolded, focusing on the young woman in gray. Her fighting style was unusual—each strike seemed light, yet he was certain that the injured man wouldn’t be out of bed for at least two weeks.
“Mother, please stop! I beg you!” Sheng Xiahua knelt down with a thud.
Hearing her youngest daughter plead, Sheng Pozi felt a lump in her throat. She never expected this quiet girl to beg for mercy on behalf of the mother and son, even kneeling before her.
Back when the family was poor and the old man was ill, she had to manage everything herself; being tough was the only way not to be bullied.
Her eldest daughter, always out with her, naturally picked up her feisty spirit. But after their fortunes improved and the youngest daughter was born, she kept her at home to learn embroidery and sewing, unintentionally raising a meek child.
Sheng Wanqiu stopped hitting.
“Little aunt, what do you mean? Are you going to forgive that dog of a man?” Wanqiu was puzzled. Could this little aunt really be so blinded by love? Was all the fighting for nothing?
“Xiahua, have you made up your mind?”
“If you have, then I’ll take Wanqiu home. You’d better take care of yourself from now on!” Sheng Pozi looked at her youngest daughter with disappointment.
“Mother! I’m unfilial!” Sheng Xiahua cried, kowtowing several times with determined eyes.
Sheng Wanqiu seemed to understand something. In ancient times, a woman’s reputation was paramount. Little Aunt didn’t want to return and tarnish the family’s name.
“Grandma!” Sheng Wanqiu stepped forward, tugging at Sheng Pozi’s sleeve with concern in her eyes.
“Wanqiu, let’s go!”
Sheng Pozi grasped Wanqiu’s hand, ready to leave.
“Grandma, wait a moment.”
Wanqiu hurriedly picked up the earthenware pot she had placed on the ground and approached Sheng Xiahua.
---
“Little Aunt, I caught this wild rabbit in the mountains and cooked it specially for you.”
“Little Aunt, I understand your meaning. I’ll come visit you often. And if that guy dares to hit you again, I’ll make sure he never walks properly again.”
Wanqiu deliberately raised her voice on the last sentence. Yang Wei shuddered, feeling his wounds throb even more painfully.
“Wanqiu, let’s go!” Sheng Pozi called, pushing through the watching crowd.
“Little Aunt, take care. I’ll come see you!” Wanqiu said before following Sheng Pozi away.
Sheng Pozi’s energy sank low. Wanqiu wasn’t sure if she should share what she had observed, so she held it in, waiting for the right moment to discuss the little aunt’s situation in depth.
“Speak up. Keeping it in is so painful,” Sheng Pozi said, having noticed Wanqiu’s hesitant expression for some time.
“Grandma, don’t be angry with Little Aunt. She made this decision for me and my sisters’ sake.”
“We’ll visit Little Aunt often. If she’s bullied again, I’ll bag that dog of a man and break his legs so he can’t roam freely anymore!” Wanqiu clenched her fist with determination.
“You brat, why didn’t you say this earlier? We could’ve broken those two’s legs right then and there.”
“From now on, everything—eating, drinking, even going to the bathroom—must follow Little Aunt’s rules. If they misbehave, a few days of hunger will straighten them out.”
Wanqiu was stunned. The old lady’s mindset was truly something else. Seeing her regretful expression, was she maybe considering going back to beat up that mother and son again?
“This time, we’ll let them off. Their wounds won’t heal in less than ten or fifteen days. After half a month, if they dare bully your Little Aunt again, we’ll take action!”
Sheng Pozi’s teeth ground together fiercely as she spoke.
“Alright! We’ll follow your lead, Grandma.” Wanqiu quickly agreed, afraid of angering the old lady.
“Grandma, I want to visit the pharmacy. Do you want to come?”
“I saw many herbs in the mountains earlier. I’ll ask if the pharmacy accepts them.”
